Sunday, May 27th - 1 John 3:7-10

Lisa's tweet:  LMRMinistries:  1 John 3:7-10 ~ We either live for God - or we follow the ways of the Devil.  Self-control helps us resist the Devil and grow to be more like God.

Saturday, May 26th - 1 Peter 5:6-11

Lisa's tweet:  LMRMinistries:  1 Peter 5:6-11 ~ These are really powerful verses.  We are open to attack when we are not alert and self-controlled.

Friday, May 25th - 1 Peter 4:1-11

Good Morning!

It's Friday!  Some have already started this long weekend and others will follow this afternoon, but either way, it IS a holiday weekend and worth a celebration.  Please take a moment today and everyday to say thank you to our men and women who have, who are, and will - fight for our freedom and protect this great country of ours.
Speaking of freedom, we as Christians live in freedom because of the sacrifice and shed blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  He gave His life so that we might be free from sin and live with Him eternally.  Now that is something to shout about and celebrate!  Praises to His Name!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Peter 4:1-11 ~ Ever have friends who test your self-control when they try to get you to do things you shouldn't? This speaks to that situation.

In verse one we are told to arm ourselves with the same attitude of Christ when He suffered.  We are done with sin and live the rest of our lives for the will of God.  He is with us every minute of every day, as we live for Him!
Does anything on the list of evil sighted in verse 3 sound familiar?  We see it all around us today!  In verse 5 it says that they will have to give account for their actions and their lives to God.  All will be judged.
Verse 7 says that the end of all things is near and we should be self-controlled and clear minded so that we can pray.  Actually these remaining verses give us instructions on how to live our lives for Him.  1.  Be clear minded so you can pray    2.  Be self-controlled    3.  Love each other deeply    4.  Offer hospitality without grumbling    5.  Use your gifts to serve others    6.  If you speak - speak with the words of God    7.  If you serve - serve with the strength God gives.  Do all this so that God will be praised in all things through Jesus Christ.  "To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen." (vs 11b)

That is a lot to think about and strive to do!  Be in the Word and in prayer daily!  He will guide and help us!  We will be ready for His return and it is near......Maranatha - come Lord Jesus!

Have a great day!

Thursday, May 24th - 1 Peter 1:13-21

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Peter 1:13-21 ~ Out of love and gratitude to God, choose self-control.  Through prayer, rely on God's power to help you choose.

What a powerful passage.  Do you see all the verbs - prepare, be, set, live, and believe!  We need to prepare our minds for action - be self-controlled - set our hope on the grace to be given to us when Jesus Christ is revealed.   Be holy as He is holy!
We are to live as strangers in this world and not conform to the evil around us, but remember that we were bought with a price - the precious blood of Jesus Christ - the Lamb!  Through Jesus we believe in God!  Our faith and hope are in God - the very one that raised Jesus from the dead and glorified Him.
God has not promised us an easy road, but He has promised to walk it with us every step of the way and will help and lead throughout the journey.  He is our Rock!  He is our salvation!  He is the reason we live!

Choose self-control and rely on God's power to choose!

Have a great day!

Wednesday, May 23rd - Titus 2:11-14

Top of the morning to each of you!  It's Wednesday and a day that for some is called "hump" day - meaning the middle of the week.  We have climbed to the top and we are on the downhill side and are sliding into the weekend.  Actually, this will be a long weekend as we celebrate Memorial Day!  Big plans?

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Titus 2:11-14 ~ Our knowledge of the great gift of our salvation gives us strength to say "No" and exercise self-control over pleasures.

It is not easy to say "No", but we need to say it!  We need to exercise the self-control that we have been talking about.  God has given us everything that we need to live a self-controlled life and we just need to rely on Him.

Did you read verses 13 and 14?  "...while we wait for the blessed hope -- the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good."  This passage is talking about US!!  We are waiting for that glorious day when HE will return to take us HOME!

Are you ready?

Tuesday, May 22nd - 2 Timothy 3:1-9

Good Morning!

Another beautiful day in store for us!  I love this weather and the kids do too!  Last day of school for most today!  :o)

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries:  2 Timothy 3:1-9 ~ A picture of those who oppose God and lack self-control.  Demonstrate self-control so that no one mistakes you for one of these!

Did you read this passage this morning?  Did it kind of sound like our world today?  Look at verses two through four and do you see any similarities with our world today?  If you look at verse one it says, "There will be terrible times in the last days."
Yes, we are living in the last days!  How long will these "last days" last - no one knows, but we are to be ready!  Ready to go HOME with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  Hallelujah!

As Lisa wrote, demonstrate self-control so that you will not be confused with ones mentioned here in this passage.

Have a great day!

Monday, May 21st - 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Good Morning!

Everyone is up and ready to start the work/school week!  My son only has two days and an hour left before summer vacation!  Needless to say, he is excited.  How about you?  Are you excited about summer?  I am!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 ~ Paul is telling the church about Christ's return (chapter 4).  You never know when, so live every day like it could be today!

This is a powerful passage and packed full of encouragement for us as sisters and brothers in Christ.  I love the imagery in verses 1 thru 3 as it describes Jesus return - like a thief in the night or as labor pains for a pregnant woman.  We don't know the time or day, but we know it will happen and we will be ready!  Praise the Lord!

Verse 6 is very important - we are sons and daughters of the Light and therefore "be alert and self-controlled".  As Lisa wrote this morning, we need to be ready since we don't know when, but be alert and live each day as if it was today!

Look at verse 8:  "But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet."  God has given us the tools and the encouragement we need to be ready when He returns.  As He continues in verse 9 and 10, we have been appointed to receive salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He died for us so that we might live together with Him!
What a promise!  What encouragement to us!  We will live with Him forever!

Verse 11 is more of a command/request of us:  "Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."  Are we?  I hope and pray that I am an encouragement to you, my sisters and that I am helping to build you up in your Christian walk.  You are to me and I am so very thankful for your friendship and your love.

Have a wonderful day and know that today could be the day and I will see you in Heaven for eternity!  Be encouraged and SHINE for HIM in all that you do today!

Love y'all!

Sunday, May 20th - Mark 6:17-29

Good Morning!

What a beautiful day this is shaping up to be and full of sunshine and cool breezes.  I love it!  Let the "SON" shine through!  This is His day and a day to worship and praise Him for everything He's done!  A day for fellowship and study of His Word together as family in worship.  Get up and get ready - it's time for church!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Mark 6:17-29 ~ A man and a woman who did not exercise self-control.  This is an example of lack of self-control, getting out of control.

As I read this passage again this morning, I was saddened.  I look at what was done to John the Baptist because of a grudge against the truth and then I look at our world today.  Wow!  Exhibiting lack of self-control can be very dangerous and end in very bad circumstances.  It is not always easy, but God has given us all the tools and the Helper to have self-control and not get out of control.

Shine for Him today!

Saturday, May 19th - Titus 1:5-9

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Titus 1:5-9 ~ Characteristics of an "elder" - a person who watches over God's people.  As you lead your family, live out these godly standards.

Let's make a list:
1.  Blameless
2.  Husband of one wife
3.  A family with believing, obedient children
4.  Not overbearing
5.  Not quick-tempered
6.  Not a heavy drinker
7.  Not violent
8.  Not pursuing dishonest gain
9.  Hospitable
10.  Love what is good
11.  Self-controlled
12.  Upright
13.  Holy
14.  Disciplined
15.  Hold firmly to the Message (God's Word)
16.  Encourager with sound doctrine (the Word of God)

Quite an impressive list found in these five verses.  We can all benefit from striving to lead with these characteristics.  They are part of living the Christian life - of being a true follower of Christ - of being a CHRISTIAN!

Study them and live these godly standards!
Have a great day!

Friday, May 18th - 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Good Morning!

It is kind of a slow morning around here as my parents are leaving to return home.  It has been a very short visit, but we have had a great time together.  The kids have really enjoyed having Meemaw and Papaw (Poppy) around for a day or so.  Me too!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 ~ Q: What is this prize?  A: Godly living.  As we exercise control over our bodies, we do not block ourselves from winning the prize.

I have never really been a runner, but I do understand competition after playing and coaching basketball and soccer.  I like to win!  I have always enjoyed Paul's references to athletes and races and striving for the prize.
In order to achieve the win, we must be self-controlled and disciplined.  Are you?  There is always room for improvement with me and I plan to concentrate on it a little more.  I want to get that "crown that will last forever."

Have a great day!
