Sunday, September 30th - Proverbs 14:16; 15:16

Good Morning!

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.  Our God is a God who saves."  Psalm 42:1,2a; 68:19,20a
As we go and corporately worship our Awesome God today, seek His face, praise His name, thirst for Him, and He will answer our prayers and delight in us.  It's SONday!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 15:16 ~ You'll never have enough money, but you can tap into something that maximizes the money you have.  Fearing the Lord leads to better results
LMRMinistries: Want to know more about what it means to Fear the Lord?  Here's a deeper look:  www.feargod.com/FG_Articles/TheLordsTreasuer2.pdf

The first verse in Proverbs 14:16 is fairly straight forward:  "A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless."  If we are doing thins God's way, we stay away from evil and darkness and walk in the Light!  There are times that we do, however, look like a fool when we stumble and get frustrated at circumstances and situations.  We do sin, but God forgives!  He disciplines, but forgives and continues to walk with us as we grow in our Christian Walk.

"Better a little with the fear of the Lord, than great wealth with turmoil." 15:16  We live in the world, and one of the richest nations in the world.  By the world standard - money means power, happiness, prestige and prominence.  We live in the world, but are not part of the world and what we have we see as God's provision and blessing.  I am constantly blown away by God's blessings and His timing!  He is my Provider, my Sustenance, my Rewarder, my Redeemer, and my Heavenly Father - Savior - and Lord!

When you get a chance, take a look at the article that Lisa mentioned.  Take time today and sit with God for a while and tell Him your thoughts and listen.  God is good!

Saturday, September 29th - Proverbs 10:27 and 13:13

Good Morning!

The sun has not risen yet, but it is going to be a great day!  We have another day to grow in Him, to seek His face and to share the Good News!  Praise the Lord!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 13:13-14 ~ How are you known in life - as one who respects and applies wisdom...or one who tries to do things your own way?  God's way #justdoit

Look at Proverbs 10:27 - "The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short."  The fear of the Lord allows us to live according to His ways.  As we walk with Him we have the opportunity and command to help others know Him and walk with us.  Our hope and promise is eternal life with God in Heaven!  Now that is adding length to life!  PTL!

Proverbs 13:13-14 - "He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded.  The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death."
I know how I want to be seen and known in life - as the one that respects and applies wisdom and teaches God's way.  How about you?  We need to always remember that we are a work in progress - continually growing and seeking His best for us and sharing that with others that we meet.  I am so glad that God isn't done with me yet!  When He calls me home - He will be finished and I will praise Him forever!!  Hallelujah!

How are you known?  How do you want to be known?  God's way - Let's do it!

Friday, September 28th - Proverbs 8:12-20; 9:10

Good Morning!

It's Friday!  Have big plans for the weekend?  I get to go and sing Christmas Music for a couple hours in preparation for the Christmas concert.  It is great music and we are going to rock the house!  It is going to be a great weekend!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 8:17 ~ God loves all...but especially those who love Him.  Want to know Him better?  Seek Him, Pray, study His Word, submit to His ways.  #life

These verses paint a picture almost.  The family of wisdom - prudence, knowledge and discretion. Can you see the signs with the diagonal line through it?  evil - pride, arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Then you have the good "kids" - Counsel and sound judgement, understanding, power and laws that are just.

I think verse 17 is one of my favorites of this passage: "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."  God's love is for all, but we must love back.  We need to seek Him and get to know Him better.  How do we do that?  Be in the Word - your Bible - and seek Him and listen and study - He will meet you there!  Have conversation with Him - Pray!  Submit to His ways - live the life He has called you to and do so with joy!

So do you like the picture?  Can you see it in your life?  God loves me and He loves you!  Will you let Him lead and guide you through this life?  Seek His Face!  "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Prov. 9:10)

Seek - Pray - Study - and Submit!!!

Have a great day!

Thursday, September 27th - Proverbs 3:7,8; 4:14-19

Good Morning!

It's Thursday!!  Have you given this day to the Lord?  His blessings abound and He longs to spend time with you.  Dive into His Word and listen to what He has to say to you today!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 4:14-19 ~ So, not doing things God's way = looking for a way to do evil, trying to trip someone up, being wicked and violent   #unattractive
LMRMinistries: Proverbs 4:19 ~ What a sad verse.  Wicked people are clueless why their lives are such a mess.  Listen to wise people in your life ~ they will guide you

In verses 7 and 8 we see that we are not to be proud, but to have a healthy fear of the Lord and turn away from evil.  As we live the life that God has called us to, we will be healthy in body and soul.

"The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day." vs 18

Do not walk in the paths of evil and look to the SON!  Surround yourself with wise people and strong Christians and together we will have the victory over evil.

Have a terrific and thankful Thursday!

Wednesday, September 26th - Proverbs 1:7; 2:1-5

Good evening!

Wasn't last night at GEMS great?  Great meal, great teaching and great fellowship!  Wow!  Can't wait to do it again in two weeks!  Yeah!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 1:7 ~ What do you have fear of?  What you fear is what you worship because it consumes your life.  If you don't fear God, you'll fear something.

This is the verse that Lisa used last night for the base of her teaching.  "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."  1:7
The beginning of knowledge!  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord has several meanings, and one of the first ones is awe and reverence!  How do you feel when you talk about God?  How about when you read His Word?
Do you have an awe and reverence for Him like no other?

To live with peace, power and purpose, you need a healthy fear of the Lord.  This is key!  His character, His love, and His plan is weaved throughout the Bible and He demands respect and an awe and reverence like no other.  Will you give it to Him?

Verses 1 thru 5 of chapter 2 tells us we should seek knowledge as a hidden treasure.  Turn our ear to wisdom; apply our heart to understanding; and look for it, we will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Faith is the key!

Do you have the key?

Have a great evening!

Tuesday, September 25th - Proverbs 14:1-18

Good Morning!

It's this evening!!!  GEMS meets at 6:00 p.m. today!!!!!  I hope you all can come!  We will be waiting for you with great food and programs for the kids, Bible teaching for the Moms and some great Break Out Areas or as we call them BOAs!  Come and enjoy!   GEMS!!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 14:9 ~ When someone hurts you and you don't forgive, the Bible calls you a fool.  You want the peace that others have?  Forgive/make amends

It is really hard when we are hurt deeply to forgive and move on, but that is what God asks us to do.  Many of us have experienced this and know all too well the hurt and sadness it can cause.  But, I am living testimony that one can take that hurt and with the Lord's help and strength, make it into a positive and grow even stronger in your Christian Walk.
God is watching and He knows when we have had enough, but HE encourages us to forgive and make amends with whomever has hurt us.

We need to show grace as we have been shown!  We have the ultimate Teacher and He is beside us all the way!  Let's do this!!  The "grudge" can get very heavy and you can feel so free if you let it go - Forgive and make amends!

See y'all this evening!  Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday, September 24th - Proverbs 13:13-25

Happy Monday Morning!

It is going to be a beautiful day!  We are one day closer to meeting together for GEMS!  That's right, we meet tomorrow evening for physical food, spiritual food and fellowship - Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.  Looking forward to seeing you!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 13:20 ~ Who do you "walk" with?  You become like the people you surround yourself with.  Find wise people and do life with them.  Let go of fools.

As we read this passage we see a theme of discipline and instruction and how they are rewarding if accepted and followed.  Instruction - respect is rewarded; fountain of life; wins favor; and walk with the wise - grow wise.
Discipline - heed correction and be honored; sweet to the soul; prosperity is the reward; leave an inheritance for your children; and "he who loves him (son) is careful to discipline him." (vs 24b)

Let's take a look at verse 20 that Lisa used.  "He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm."
I am sure we have all heard or even said, "They are hanging with the wrong crowd."  That is exactly what this verse is talking about.  We become who we spend the most time with and even how we spend our time.
Have you ever noticed that many times a married couple begin to have the same "looks" or similarities?  I have noticed that adopted children often begin to look like their parents and family.
Let's do as Lisa suggests: Do life with wise people and those that love the Lord and walk His Walk!  We will definitely be rewarded with eternal life!

Have a marvelous Monday!

Sunday, September 23rd - Proverbs 13:1-12

Good Morning!

Happy Lord's Day!  I hope to see many of you at church this morning!  Can't wait!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 13:5-6 ~ Do you hate the things (not the people) that go against God's ways?  What do you listen to, watch on tv/online, read? #guardyourmind

I look at verse 1 and rejoice in the fact that I had Christian Parents that disciplined me and raised me God's way.  "A wise son heeds his father's instruction,".  As I read this verse I also thought of me - do I heed the instructions of my heavenly Father?
Verse 3 is important too:  "He who guards his lips guards his soul, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.  Look at James 1:19-21 and 3:1-12.  Those passages could be overlayed on this one and read very similar.

Verses 5 and 6 that Lisa mentions are definitely stand-outs in this passage.  As I look around our world today I am angry and filled with dislike for the things that are happening.  As Lisa points out, I do not hate the people, but the things and the actions.  We don't even have to go as big as the world, but right here in our own towns!

Look at our own homes and even ourselves....What radio, Cd's or tapes (for the older crowd) do I listen to on a regular basis?  What programs or reality shows do I watch on TV or online?  What books or articles do I read?  Can you answer all these questions with honest wholesome answers?  We need to ask ourselves a couple questions when we look at the questions above:  a.  Is it edifying?  b.  Does the content honor God?  c.  Will I grow in my Christian life by listening/watching?  d.  What would Jesus do? - WWJD

Read the passage in Proverbs again and then the two in James.  How do you measure up?  I know I can make some improvements!  Remember, "God isn't finished with us yet!"  We are works in progress!

Have a stupendous Sunday!  Love y'all!

Saturday, September 22nd - Proverbs 12:15-28

Good Morning!

Happy first day of Fall!  I even changed my color font this morning to match the season! :) I can't believe Summer is gone and Fall is here!  How time flies!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 12:15 ~ Fools can't figure out why their lives are in turmoil.  Wise people ask for input about their problems and make changes to correct them.

Sometimes I think fools do not have their eyes open or their listening ears turned on!  Then I realize, they do not have Jesus!  The fields are white unto harvest, but the reapers, where are they?  We need to share the Good News and help the fools to see and to hear.  Are you ready to share?

Verses 16-19,22 talk about words in various ways - insults, testimony, lies and just plain words.  "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."  I beg to differ with that old saying.  Words can hurt deep!  Words are strong and can destroy friendships, relationships and self-esteem.  That's a whole other subject when we begin to talk about the tongue and the words that proceed from our mouths.  (Look at the book of James in the New Testament!)

Look at verses 25 and 26 - "An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.  A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray."  Words come into play once again.  Kind words can lift a person's spirit.  We choose our friends wisely and then we know that we can go to them when we are down and need cheered up or prayed for/with and share our trials and our blessings!
Verse 28 talks of eternal life for the righteous!  Hallelujah and praise the Lord!  We will one day go HOME to our Heavenly Father because we know and have a relationship with Jesus Christ His Son who died and rose again for us!

Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?  If not, please contact us and we will share Him with you.

Have a super Saturday!

Friday, September 21st - Proverbs 12:1-14

Good Afternoon!

A later start today and I apologize.  I really wanted to stay home today, but...  Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed the rain and the last day of summer.

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 12:14 ~ The words we say are more powerful than we realize.  When we work hard, we expect rewards.  Work hard to control your words #+rewards

I pretty much disliked discipline when I was growing up, but then I became a Mom and that all changed!  Actually, it changed before that and I realized it was for my own good and I did learn from it and tried to do better each and every time.  I try and explain that to my children and I want them to understand long before I did!

Our actions, our words and even our thoughts tell who we are and WHO we belong to in this world.  Are we letting Jesus shine through our words, our actions and our thoughts?  Remember that you may be the only Jesus that someone sees!  Are you telling the story of Jesus with your life?

Choose your words carefully and encourage someone today as you share the Good News!

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday, September 20th - Proverbs 11:17-31

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 11:17-31 ~ Mega theme in these verses:  Contrast between the righteous and the wicked (18-21,23,27,29-31).  Being righteous doing things God's way

The wicked have dire consequences:  brings himself harm, earns deceptive wages, pursues evil - death, wicked will not go unpunished, the hope of the wicked ends only in wrath, and whoever trusts in his riches will fall.

The righteous are rewarded:  a kind man benefits himself, reap a sure reward, attains life, the Lord delights in him, free, end in good, will prosper, seek good and finds good, will thrive, and the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.

As Lisa eluded to in her tweet, being righteous and doing things God's way is the only way to go.  It is a win win situation.  God loves us and He is watching over us every step of the way.  Trust Him and lean on Him!  Our ultimate reward is out of this world - eternal life in Heaven with our God!  Hallelujah!

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday, September 19th - Proverbs 11:1-16

Good Morning!

What a beautiful sunrise this morning!  I love the fall weather we are beginning to have now.  Warm days and cool nights - Fall is arriving!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 11:13 ~ Gossip:  If you're not a part of the problem or part of the solution, then if you speak about someone, you're a gossip   #keepquiet

I like verse 2 - "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."  I don't even think any explanation is needed here.
Have you noticed how many times it is words or the tongue and lack of control that gets people in trouble?

Lisa's tweet deals with words and speaking out of turn.  Verse 13 - "A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret."  Wow, pretty powerful words!  I want to be the trustworthy friend and sister.  How about you?  As Lisa tweeted - keep quiet!

Have a great day!

Tuesday, September 18th - Proverbs 10:17-32

Good Morning!

A little cooler this morning since the cold front moved through, but it is a gorgeous morning.  I think fall is almost here!  Yeah!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 10:19-21 ~ It's so hard to hold your tongue when you "seem" to be surrounded by stupid people...if you run your mouth, you become the fool.

The principle in verse 17 is so true and we see it on a daily basis.  Have you seen it in your children, in us and in the world?  "He who heeds discipline shows the way to life..."

The verses Lisa noted in her tweet are so true as well.  "When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.  The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.  The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgement."  (vs 19-21)
Isn't it so hard to hold your tongue or stay quiet when everyone around you is running their mouths?  Do you remember the old saying that your Mom or others used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!"?  This verse kind of reminds me of those words!  Especially verse 21 where I think it is really talking about encouraging others with your words and edifying.  Then I think of those that don't even think before they speak and just continue to run their mouths and don't know when to stop.  I would rather hold my tongue and then have encouraging words to say than not say anything worthwhile.

Did you see verse 27?  "The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short."  As Christians, we have the promise of eternal life!  Praise the Lord God Almighty!  Talk about adding length to our lives!  :o)

What verse jumped out at you?  How is the memorization going?  Let us know!

Have a great day!

Monday, September 17th - Proverbs 10:1-16

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 10:8 ~ Wise people listen and apply good advice instead of running their mouths!  When someone points you in the right direction, do you go?

Short verses with good advice - principles.  If you take the whole passage that we are to read today, you will find lots of little nuggets of advice.  Verse four for example:  "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth."  If you are able, but not willing to work, you will probably not have the finances you need.  A strong principle!
Verse seven touched a chord in me - "The memory of the righteous will be a blessing,..."  Having had several dear friends and some "family" go HOME this past year has been hard, but the memories are wonderful and a true blessings.  I will see them again!

Verse eight that Lisa mentions in her tweet is pretty straight forward too.  "The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin."   How many times have you been given sound advice and insisted on doing it your way?  Listening and taking to heart the good advice and "commands" will lead us to success.  How is your relationship with Jesus?  Are you listening to His commands?  Are you in the Word daily and allowing Him to guide your every step?

Which verse did you choose to memorize today?  Stay in the Word!

Praying you have a marvelous Monday!

Sunday, September 16th - Proverbs 3:19-35

Good Evening!

It was a long, but great day!  Great worship at church with the choir and the church; watching a great movie - "The Odd Life of Timothy Green", and the Small Group Leaders training.  Full day, but praising the Lord for each minute!

Proverbs 3:19-35:

Lots of truth here that continues from yesterday.  Wisdom brings understanding and understanding knowledge!  The Lord blesses the house of the righteous and the wise inherit honor.  God cares for His own and He takes care of each one - you and me included!

Will you ask for wisdom?

Saturday, September 15th - Proverbs 3:1-19

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 3:1-19 ~ Being wise leads to blessings:  Long life, prosperity, favor with God and man, understanding and more.  How to be wise:  #prayforwisdom

I am loving Proverbs!  Remember we said they are principles and not promises, but many of them could be like promises!  We know that it is God's Word and it is true!

How many of you can memorize scripture?  Yes, we all can!  Look at verse one - "...keep my commands in your heart..."  Take a verse or two a day and memorize them and "keep them in your heart".
Look at verse 3 - aren't these characteristics of our Christian life - Love and faithfulness?  It says to write them on the tablet of your heart and don't let them leave you.

Verses 5 and 6 are very familiar verses and these are two verses that you should memorize.  "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."  This is pretty much a "promise" and is restated throughout Scripture - Trust God with everything you are and He will guide you through life.  He will walk every step of the way with you and never leave you! Personally, I don't know how those without a personal relationship with God through Jesus make it through life.

Reading forward in this passage we find that God disciplines His children because He loves us!  We also read that wisdom is rich and profitable, more precious than rubies, it brings long life, honor and peace, and she (wisdom) brings blessing.

There is a lot of good stuff in this passage.  Take a verse at a time and re-read and ponder.  Spend some quality time with the Lord and see what He is speaking to you today!

Have a great Saturday!

Friday, September 14th - Proverbs 2:1-15

Good Afternoon!

A rather hectic morning and just getting to the Blog.  Sorry!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 2:1-15 ~ Wisdom coming from God keeps you from making all kinds of mistakes in your life if you listen and apply it.  Who is wise in your life?

How do you obtain wisdom?  Apply yourself, seek understanding, search for it, but first and foremost - ask for it.  God gives wisdom and from Him comes knowledge and understanding.  It will keep you from making lots of mistakes and it will guide you along the path of right and blameless.  It will protect you because God loves you!

Do you have a mentor?  Do you have someone that is wise in your life?  Have you sought true wisdom?  The book of Proverbs is all about WISDOM.  That is the Mega Theme of the book!  Verse 3 says to cry aloud for understanding and seek it as if searching for treasure.  Verse 5, "...then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."

Listen!........Apply it!.........Listen!.........Apply yourself to it!..........WISDOM!!!

Thursday, September 13th - Proverbs 1:1-7

Good Morning!

I am going to start blogging from our two week readings and hope it encourages you to read and study the book of Proverbs.  I will probably not cover all the verses with every blog, but important thoughts and principles that I feel led to share with you.
I am so excited about where God is leading this year for GEMS and I can't wait to see how HE brings everything together and leads through Lisa's teachings, the Blog and the two week reading schedule.  Let's do this and grow together!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries:  Preparing for the new season of GEMS - single mom ministry I lead - God led me to preach from Proverbs.  Next few months' tweets #themesinProverbs

Proverbs 1:1-7
Did you notice the subtitle of this passage if your Bible has them?  "Prologue:  Purpose and Theme"

If you remember from Tuesday night at the GEMS kick-off, Lisa gave us the introduction for Proverbs.  You can find the notes from the evening on this blog.  Lisa gave us eight statements about the book of Proverbs:  1.  It is a collection of wise sayings  2.  They give practical ideas for how to live a great life when you do things God's way  3.  Most are short and easy to remember  4.  It is not like reading a story and they are not grouped by topic  5.  The Mega Theme is WISDOM  6.  They show us how to live with power, peace and purpose - but we have to choose it  7.  They are principles not promises  and lastly, 8.  If you want to move forward in life, apply the Proverbs to your life.

The main character in Proverbs is King Solomon (verse 1).  He was the wisest man who ever lived.  (Jesus was God in the flesh)  Solomon was the son of David and King of Israel.
These Proverbs were to be used to attain wisdom and discipline; for understanding; for acquiring a disciplined life - doing what is right and fair; giving knowledge and discretion to the young and learning and understanding.  The first part of verse 7 is very important:  "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, ..."

Let's learn together and see where God leads!  Ready - Set - GROW!!!

Wednesday, September 12th - Luke 18:1-8

Good evening!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries:  Luke 18:1-8 ~ She knew she'd been wronged; it needed to be made right.  Trust God to work justice for you (v7).  Prayer is not "one and done".  #keeppraying

The widow was very persistent.  She came back to the judge time and time again, until he finally got tired of it and gave in!  Persistence paid off.  God will bring justice to His own.

Have you had something that you prayed about for a long time?  Keep praying!  As I said before, God's timing is perfect - never late and never early - just right on time!

Tuesday, September 11th - Luke 13:10-17

Good Morning!

TODAY is the day!  GEMS kicks off tonight at 6:00pm!  I can't wait to see all of you and to get back to a regular schedule!
We also remember the policemen, the firemen, the officers, employees, and all the men and women that lost their lives eleven years ago today in the fatal attacks on our country.  Please continue to pray for our country and all those in the military that fight and serve to keep her safe and free.

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Luke 13:10-17 ~ She suffered 18 years before she was set free.  Have you ever prayed a long time for something?  God's timing is perfect #keeppraying

This woman had suffered eighteen years and had been crippled in such a way that she couldn't straighten up or walk up-right.  Did you notice that Jesus called her and then simply told her she was set free from her infirmity.  He did put His hands on her and she immediately stood straight and praised God.  Hallelujah!
The ruler of the synagogue was upset because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath - a day of rest, but Jesus knew what they were thinking and explained why.  It says in verse seventeen that all the people were pleased with all the wonderful things that were happening.

Back to Lisa's question - is there something that you have been praying for in your life for a long time?  Remember, God's timing is perfect - He is never late and never early, but ALWAYS right on time!

See y'all tonight!  Can't wait!

Monday, September 10th - Mark 5:21-34

Good evening!

Sorry, I didn't get the tweet before I left for work this morning and so I am just now getting to the blog.  Sorry!
I am so excited about tomorrow night - GEMS Kick-off!!!  Yeah!!!  Come and join us at Eastview - 6:00pm to 7:45pm!  It is gonna rock!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Mark 5:21-34 ~ This woman was desperate - she knew in order to get well, she had to be incredibly close to Jesus.  It's still the same  #stayclose

I love this passage of scripture.  I think it is interesting to see the faith of the two individuals - the synagogue ruler, Jairus and the woman with the bleeding problem.  Both knew the healing power that Jesus possessed and wanted Him to help them.  Jairus came right out and said what he wanted - Jesus to heal his daughter.  The woman just knew if she got close to Jesus she would be healed.

Did you notice in verse 29 that the woman knew if she got close enough to touch His garment, she would be healed and that is what she did.  It says that the bleeding stopped immediately and she felt she was free!  Yet, Jesus knew someone had touched Him and He asked.  The woman finally came forward and fell at His feet.  Jesus told her - your faith has healed you, go and be free of your suffering.
As Lisa mentioned, it is still the same today.  In order to have a relationship with Jesus, we have to be close to Him!  We can't come to church once or twice a year and expect to have a close relationship.  We need to be in His Word and to pray and fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ.  We have to be close!!!  Are you???

Sleep well!

Sunday, September 9th - Proverbs 31:10-31

Good Sunday Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Proverbs 31:10-31 ~ Whether you're married or not, this woman's characteristics are good for all Christian women to model  #strive4excellence

This passage is packed with characteristics that all of us as women should model.  Let's make a list:     noble character - worth more than rubies (physical riches) - trustworthy - thinks of others before herself - honest - hard worker - thrifty - provider - wise - resourceful - takes care of herself physically and mentally - prepared - philanthropist - caring and approachable -protector - strong - respected - confident - praised and blessed - and fears the Lord.
I am sure there are others that I missed, but this is quite a list.  How do you measure up?  Whew!  I still have some work to do, but I had a great mentor in my life and have watched others as well.  My grandma was my mentor and she lived this passage of scripture - she was a Proverbs 31 woman!   Everything that is listed above, I saw in her.  I see it in my Mom too!

I want to have all of these characteristics and live them day to day!  How about you?

Have a great Sunday!

Saturday, September 8th - 2 Timothy 1:1-7

Good Morning!

I am still kind of numb and emotional about what happened yesterday and at the same time, I am so very proud of Eastview Christian Church!  They truly lived their vision statement yesterday - A fearless church of Christ followers whose ridiculous love and dangerous witness are irresistible.  All praise and glory to God!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 2 Timothy 1:1-7 ~ Paul tells Timothy that part of the reason he has such a strong faith is because it was passed down from his mom, Eunice  #leavealegacy

Paul calls Timothy his son!  He loved him like a son and taught him much, but tells him that his faith began with his grandmother and mother - Lois and Eunice.  What a strong legacy they left in Timothy!
Look at verse 7 - "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
Isn't this an interesting verse to read and ponder the day after a near tragedy?  The staff, the kids, the staff and volunteers at Eastview all acted yesterday with a spirit of power and strength and love.

What legacy will you leave?  I looked out over the crowd as I sang for my grandma's funeral and I saw a strong legacy she had left behind: both sons were ministers, two of her daughters were minister's wives and one was an elders wife, among her grandchildren there was a missionary, preachers, preacher's wives, youth ministers, christian musicians, and all the great grandchildren that were old enough had made life changing decisions for Jesus!
I ask again, What legacy will you leave behind?

Friday, September 7th - Acts 9:36-42

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Acts 9:36-42 ~ Dorcas - so loved b/c she gave to others.  God decided her time wasn't up - bet she went right back to serving!  How do u spend your time?

Tabitha or Dorcas as it is translated, was a true servant of God.  She sewed and helped the poor in any way she could.  The scripture says that she "always" did good and helped the poor.  We don't know her age or what happened, other than she got sick and died.  We also don't know how long it was before Peter came to the house and was taken to the room.
The faith of those that went and called Peter was strong.  They probably told Peter of what had happened, but Peter went and saw the women mourning the death of Dorcas.  He asked everyone to leave and then he took to his knees and prayed.  There were no lights and or commotion, just prayer!  Peter said three words, "Tabitha, get up." and Dorcas got up (with Peter's help).  He presented Dorcas to the believers and widows that were there and she was alive.
What thoughts do you think went through the mind of Dorcas?  She was a true servant of God.  It says she "saw Peter and sat up."  She was probably ready to serve him and all those with him.

How do you spend your time?  How are you serving in the Kingdom?  Are you serving "inward" or "outward"?  Remember the ministry we have been given - to share the Good News with all those that do not know!  How will you serve today?

Happy Friday!

Thursday, September 6th - Acts 16:14,40

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Acts 16:14,40 ~ Lydia heard God's Word and she gave her heart to Christ.  Her response was to open her home to care for others  #shareyourstuff

Lydia gave her all for the Lord and served Him and His followers (the church) well.  We are asked to give it all to God and not just part of our lives or the parts we want to give.  Lydia gave her heart to God and then shared everything she had in service to Him.

I grew up in a family that opened our house to one and all and that we gave of our possessions to those that were in need and we shared meals with everyone.  In today's world, that isn't done a whole lot, but I see it changing for the better.  Have you asked a sister or two to come and share a meal with you and yours?  It may be a little awkward at first if you have not done it before, but it is so rewarding.  The fellowship and friendships get stronger and it is encouraging to all involved.

As Lisa says, #shareyourstuff!

Have a great day!

Wednesday, September 5th - Matthew 28:1-10

Good Morning!

I am back!!  I apologize for not posting the last few days, but I kind of went "offline" while my family was here.  I will catch you all up and we will be good to go again!  Sorry for the inconvenience, but it was nice to be "unplugged" and enjoy family time with my parents and my brother and his family.  Thank you for understanding!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Matthew 28:1-10 ~ These women had no power in their culture.  Because they did what they could with what they had, Jesus honored them. #noexcuses-doyourbest

Can you imagine what these women felt?  They are going to the tomb and talking about all the happenings in the past three days and how much they loved Jesus and wanted to anoint His body with perfumes and oils and wondering how they would roll the stone away, when they find the stone rolled away and an angel sitting on the rock!
What would you have felt?  Would you have been afraid?  Can you imagine the questions going through their heads:  Why are the guards "dead"?  Where is Jesus?  Should we run?  Where have they taken Him?  What will we tell the disciples?
The angel answered most of their questions as He told them what had happened and what they needed to tell the disciples.  Verse 6 is so important - "He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come see the place where He lay."  HE'S ALIVE!  Jesus Christ is Alive and well!  Hallelujah!
Verse 8 says the women hurried away and were still afraid, but full of joy.  They did not expect the honor they received as they ran from the tomb.  There in front of them was Jesus greeting them!  What is the first thing they did?  They worshipped Him!
In verse 10 we see the same words the angel used in verse 5 - "Do not be afraid".  Jesus tells them to go and tell the disciples and meet Him in Galilee.  The women saw Jesus first!  They were filled with joy and hurried on their way to tell the disciples.

What an exciting morning!  They saw and heard an angel, the tomb was empty, and Jesus appeared and spoke to them as they worshipped Him.  Emotional overload - sadness, grief, fear, bewilderment, excitement, joy, happiness and fulfilled - are some of the emotions that were experienced from what I read.
As Lisa says - no excuses - do your best!  God will honor all that you do for His Kingdom and sharing His Word!
Go and be a dangerous witness!
