Bible Reading for 12/2 through 12/15/2010

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!! Thank you Lord for what we experienced tonight through Ms. Pearl. What an awesome lady and all to Your Glory God!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I could have stayed and listened all night to our special guests! Wow! Ms. Pearl and Ms. Audrey - thank you! Y'all come back anytime! You are family!! All praise and glory to Him Who sits on the Throne! Wow!

I wanted to get the Bible Reading posted right away and just couldn't settle down after I got home. It was an incredible evening!

Let's stay in the Word as we do life together. Blessings!!!

Thursday - 12/2
2 Corinthians 5:17
This is an important verse to memorize. When you feel like you are slipping into your "old" ways, claim this truth. You are not that old girl...you are a new creation in Christ. Pray and ask Him to help you continue forward as your new self.

Friday - 12/3
Ephesians 4:22-24
Becoming a new creation is not a magical event. With God's help, you daily, hourly, minute by minute choose to make the attitude of your mind be like God's. He will always lead you toward good things...but you have to choose to do things His way.

Saturday - 12/4
2 Corinthians 10:5
I believe this is one of the most powerful verses to memorize and APPLY in order to live each day with joy and a feeling of victory. In Ephesians we read to be "new in the attitude of your mind." Today's verse tells you how. You do not allow destructive thoughts to take root...you capture that thought and decide to let God show you how to think and act about it.

Sunday - 12/5
Romans 6:18-23
The choice is ours...will we be a slave to the sin in our life---will sin be our master; or will we be a slave to God? Being a slave means that you will do whatever He says because He is your Master. God wants only your best; therefore, being a slave to God actually leads to the most freedom you can possibly have.

Monday - 12/6
Romans 12:1-2
Would God be pleased with the way you handle your body? You are His child; you are a temple for the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)...therefore, offer/use your body in ways that honor God. Renew your mind by taking every thought captive and by spending time with God through prayer, reading the Bible and simply enjoying His presence.

Tuesday - 12/7
Colossians 3:1-11
Walk away from the evil things that control your life. Be pure in your thoughts and actions. Paul specifically talks about the evil that comes out of our mouth (anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, lying). Prayerfully commit today to "put on your new self" and allow the Holy Spirit to help you show self-control over your words.

Wednesday - 12/8
1 Peter 4:1-11
Several good thoughts here: *Peter lists things that we should avoid (1-3) *The friends you hung out with in your "old" life will try to pull you down and back. (4) *The way to stay strong is to live according to God's ways through the strength of the spirit *Use your mouth and your body for good things in the strength of the Holy Spirit (11)

Thursday - 12/9
1 John 2:1-6
The measure of how strong we are in our walk with Christ is if we obey His commands. If you say you're a Christian, but you do whatever you want -- say whatever you want...even though you know God does not approve - you are not living in the truth of what the Bible teaches. Don't walk away; there is no freedom in that. Simply pray and ask God to help you "want to want to" live more like He wants you to in every area of your life.

Friday - 12/10
Psalm 51:10
One of my favorite verses; again, a fantastic memory verse! When you feel pulled to do things in a way that is not God honoring, pray this verse over yourself. When you pray it--it's AMAZING what the Holy Spirit will do in you.

Saturday - 12/11
Philippians 3:7-14
Some days it's really hard to do things God's way! This passage encourages us that living our life outside of God's way is basically just trash :o) (verse 8) Don't look back sister - press on. Do not condemn yourself - thank Jesus that he loves you just like you are...and loves you too much to leave you in your sin.

Sunday - 12/12
Ezekiel 11:19-20
You have to have a "heart of flesh" not a "heart of stone" in order to follow God. Notice the theological truth in this passage: God gives us a new heart. We ask - He gives. It's not by will power that we can be "good". It's by His grace, power and strength. Pray, pray, pray...and believe that He wants to give you a heart of flesh that will allow you to follow Him.

Monday - 12/13
Titus 3:3-8
Here is a picture of God's grace and mercy. He sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to clean us. We are "justified by His grace". This means Jesus died for our sins, and because of that, God declares us "not guilty" for all we've done wrong -- if we believe in Jesus. This is grace. We deserve to be condemned, but God made a way. Never take that for granted. This motivates me to choose His ways...out of a grateful heart.

Tuesday - 12/14
1 John 5:1-5
Trust God - and obey. There is no other way to be fully happy and joy filled. It seems so backward...if I obey what my Father tells me, I'll be happy ~ even though I don't get to do what I want all the time. But look at the blessing that is promised: Follow God and you will overcome the world. Your circumstances will not be able to rob you your joy when God is leading. He will show you how to overcome.

Wednesday - 12/15
Romans 6:1-4
A beautiful picture of Christian "new life" is found in baptism. If you have been baptized, spend a few minutes thinking back to your baptism - thank God for loving you and helping you transform to be more like Him. If you have not been baptized, talk to God about this today. Baptism is not for a perfect person who don't sin...it's for a believer who knows she needs Jesus to guide her. Baptism is simply a public confession that you believe in Jesus and you want to continually be more like Him.

See y'all tonight!
Love ya!

Bible Reading 11/18 through 11/30/2010

Hey GEMS !

Here is the Bible Reading for the next two weeks. We will see y'all again on the 1st of December! Be sure to make comments and send notes if you would like to do so. I am praying for y'all! Enjoy the reading!!!!

Thursday - 11/18
Ecclesiastes 5:2,3 (James 1:19-20)
Recall that great song by Phillips, Craig and Dean - "Let My Words Be Few". Keep this idea fresh in your soul as you approach your job, your kids, your family, your friends, your relationships.

Friday - 11/19
Proverbs 10:19, 13:3, 15:2 (James 1:19-20)
Quick verses to read - so pick one and memorize it. Use it in place of angry words that you are tempted to speak. It's like an "open book test"...you are tested in a situation, and you speak a verse instead of a curse! A+ :o)

Saturday - 11/20
(James 1:19-20)
Below are a number of verses showing us that God says to hold our anger.
Proverbs 14:17, 19
Proverbs 15:18
Proverbs 16:32
Proverbs 25:28
Ecclesiastes 7:9

Sunday - 11/21
2 Timothy 2:22-24 (James 1:21)
These are really powerfully instructing verses. Don't read ahead - just think about these verses today. How do you measure up? Do you like to argue and get angry? Do you want to do what God's Word says: Not quarrel/be kind to everyone?

Monday - 11/22
2 Timothy 2:25-26 (James 1:20)
Here's God's take on arguments: Gently instruct those who oppose you...point them toward God...pray that the other would repent...and come to their senses. But, sister - you better be sure you've got what it says in verse 22: a pure heart yourself!

Tuesday - 11/23
Psalm 139:1-4, 23-24 (James 1:21)
Want to have a pure heart check up? When conflict comes, be strong and courageous - ask the Lord to search your heart and show you if there is something in you that is offensive and needs to be changed.

Wednesday - 11/24
Ephesians 4:22-27 (James 1:21)
We have to choose to put off the old way we did things and, instead do things according to what God's Word says so we can be like God. Thanksgiving is sometimes stressful when we are around challenging family members. Memorize verse 26 - Let God help you have a great day - if you want to get angry, instead, say that verse over and over to replace the angry words!

Thursday - 11/25
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Below are some great verses - all with the word "thanksgiving" in them!
Psalm 69:30
Psalm 95:2
Psalm 100:4
Psalm 147:7

Friday - 11/26
Matthew 7:24-27 (James 1:22-25)
Be doers of The Word. Don't come to church and just hear it, go home and live it. Otherwise, when the storms of life come, you will get tossed around. You have to build your foundation when it's not raining so that you'll stand strong when the time comes.

Saturday - 11/27
Romans 2:7,8 (James 1:22-25)
Do what God's Word says - don't miss His blessings. The bottom line is that if you are not doing what God says to do, you are rejecting the truth - and you turn to things that lead to evil. It's a slippery trap. Keep your eyes on Christ and on God's Word.

Sunday - 11/28
John 8:31-36 (James 1:22-25)
Like the Jews who believed, Jesus says to us that we need to hold to His teaching - because there is liberty in following God's Word. You never have to look over your shoulder or watch your back. Your life is a beautiful open book as you live by the greatest book - The Bible. Following Jesus = Freedom

Monday - 11/29
Psalms about controlling the tongue (James 1:26)
Psalm 141:3 - This is a great memory verse
Psalm 17:3-5

Tuesday - 11/30
Proverbs about controlling the tongue (James 1:26)
Proverbs 12:13
Proverbs 21:23

Wednesday - 12/1
Matthew 25:34-46 (James 1:27)
Pure religion - being so full of love of God that you overflow into wanting to bless others.

See you tonight!!!

Ms. Pearl will be joining us!!

We will be studying James 2:1-13

Bible Reading 11/4 through 11/17

Hey GEMS!!!
I wanted to get the Bible Reading Plan out here so that we can all keep going with our daily reading of His Word.

Here you go! Enjoy!!

Thursday - 11/4
Luke 8:4-15
This is a parable ( a story Jesus used to teach us some truth). What kind of soil are you? Especially notice verse 13 - what happens when you are tested...do you fall away? Verse 15 - how do we show we are good soil? It's that "P" word that we learned in James 1.

Friday - 11/5
1 Corinthians 10:13
This is powerfully good news! No matter what you are tempted with (temptation comes from Satan, not God) - it's not some new thing! Satan uses the same old tricks. God is aware of Satan's schemes, and He will guide you and provide you with ways to get away from the temptation.

Saturday - 11/6
Matthew 6:13
Jesus teaches us how to pray for help in fighting temptation. We must partner with God by praying, "God - give me your eyes to see temptations around me...Lord, I ask you to guide me in making right decisions that prevent mefrom even going near that evil."

Sunday - 11/7
Luke 4:1-12
Jesus was tempted, but He never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21). Notice that Jesus used the Word of God - Bible Verses - to rebuke Satan and have victory over temptation! His example teaches us that we have to know the Bible to grow stronger in our ability to resist temptation.

Monday - 11/8
Luke 4:13
The battle doesn't end just because you have one vistory. Keep your guard up at all times...begin your day in prayer...ask God for the eyes to see temptations and His empowering stength to resist it because Satan will wait for a more opportune time to send his demons to mess with you.

Tuesday - 11/9
God tests His
people
Listed are places in the Bible that demonstrate that God is interested in testing His people so they can grow to be more like Him: Genesis 22:1 Exodus 16:4 Exodus 20:20 Deuteronomy 8:2, 16 Deuteronomy 13:3 Judges 2:22 2 Chronicles 32:31 Do not be surprised at tests/trials. They are biblical!

Wednesday - 11/10
1 Peter 1:3-9
Take your time with this passage. It is so full of amazing truth. God speaks clearly of "why" we have trials...how He uses them for our good and for His glory. He talks in this passage about the purpose of life...what the "goal" is...to be His people...to have His joy...
This is an amazing pericope! :o)

Thursday - 11/11
Proverbs 4:10-19
James taught us to ask for wisdom. Here is another look at the benefit of asking for God's wisdom. A careful reading of this text shows us that God provides the wisdom, but we still must take action to appropriate it...to choose God's ways in order that His guidance plays out in our lives.

Friday - 11/12
1 Corinthians 2:6-16
Because we are God's people through our faith in Christ, we are able to understand spiritual things that others - without His Spirit - cannot. Continually pray and ask God to give you more of His wisdom and understanding.

Saturday - 11/13
Ephesians 5:15-21
Here is a practical teaching about living with God's wisdom as your guide. When we are filled with God's wisdom, good things flood our thoughts and our hearts. Out of the overflow of our hearts, we speak and act in ways that build up ourselves and others.

Sunday - 11/14
Ecclesiastes 8:1
Do you recognize the truth in this? When you see a person who looks peaceful, who seems joy filled - their face is what shows that. When you feel confused, overwhelmed, fearful and lost - your faceshows that as well. God's wisdom truly makes us beautiful - inside and out!

Monday - 11/15
Acts 3:1-4:22
Long stroy to read, but you need the context to fully appreciate Acts 4:13. Peter and John were unschooled, ordinary men - but through the power of the Holy Spirit - which they fully allowed to work through them - they were extraordinary in wisdom.

Tuesday - 11/16
Psalm 7
Keeping James 1:13-15 in mind, read Psalm 7:14-16. When we open ourselves up to evil, it takes root and grows. Now read Psalm 7:10-13, 17. God is your shield against the plots, schemes and works of evil. Stay close to Him through prayer and you will walk in His righteousness.

Wednesday - 11/17
1 Peter 5:6-10
Be on your guard and stand firm in your faith. Don't be surprised by trials...stand strong in the truth that God provides you a way to resist evil and temptation through prayer, reading the Word and being in fellowship with other Christians. :o)

See you tonight!!

Our Bible Reading 10/21 through 11/3/10

Here is your reading schedule for the next two weeks. Keep on keeping on!

Thursday - 10/21
Matthew 5:13-16
I am the salt and light of the earth
Like salt, you are here to preserve
God's truth and to flavor this world with God's love. He needs you to shine His light in the darkness. No matter where you go today, be some "light salt"!

Friday - 10/22
John 15:5
I am a branch of the true vine
You are connected to the most powerful being in the universe. He is the source of your strength.

Saturday - 10/23
John 15:16
I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit
John 15 is about remainingin Christ. We are not required to bear fruit...but as we remain in Christ (putting Hi first), the results will be that we bear fruit.

Sunday - 10/24
Acts 1:8
I am a personal witness of Christ's
Does your heart break when you think of all the people who do not have Jesus in their lives? Who comes to mind that you personally know? Will you pray and ask God to give you opportunities to be a witness to those people this week?

Monday - 10/25
2 Corinthians 5:17-20
I am a minister of reconciliation
We are ambassadors for Christ to everyone we meet. We could have the awesome privilege of helping lead them to reconcile with God...but only if we truly understand that God works through us - His ministers.

Tuesday - 10/26
2 Corinthians 6:1
I am God's coworker
What work has God called you to? Which of His people is He entrusting to your care? Whom does He need you to demonstrate His grace to this week?

Wednesday - 10/27
Colossians 3:23
My work is significant because i am working for the Lord
You, my sister, are not waiting for God to bring significant work to you. Wherever He has you right now...that is the work that He has for you right now. Be faithful in the small things so He may trust you with more. (Matthew 25:21)

Thursday - 10/28
Ephesians 2:6
I am sealed with Christ in the heavenly realm
Because of our position in/with Christ, we also have been given authority - the authority to do God's will. We do not need to fear Satan - we have the responsibility and authority to rebuke him in Jesus name.

Friday - 10/29
Ephesians 3:12
I may approach God with freedom and confidence
What famous person would you like to meet? You'd probably feel nervous if you actually got to meet him/her.
As thrilling as that would be...consider that 24/7, you have complete access to the God of the universe...the God who made that famous person you'd like to meet. How amazing that He allows us that free access.

Saturday - 10/30
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
I am God's temple
You are God's dwelling place. You cannot go anywhere, do anything or say anything that He is unaware of...because He is dwelling in you! You bring Him glory when you use your temple to build up others, to serve, to quietly get filled up through His Word. On the other hand, you defile His temple when you abuse your body, when you utter words that are destructive or you go your own way. Pray for a deeper understanding of what it means to be God's temple.

Sunday - 10/31
Ephesians 2:10
I am God's workmanship
You are God's workmanship...not your parents, your friends, your spiritual leaders, your boss....
God has created you for His pleasure and purpose. There is no sense in looking to others for approval. God created you - God has gifted you - God has a purpose for you.

Monday - 11/1
Isaiah 41:9-10
I am strengthened and upheld because I am a child of God.
You have been chosen...it doesn't get much more significant that that! Don't question "if" you were chosen. When you accept Christ by faith, you are getting into agreement with God's will for your life...because He chose to love you. Becuase you are chosen, this Scripture tells us that God has you - strengthening you - upholding you.
Appropriate it.

Tuesday - 11/2 Election Day - Don't forget to vote!!!
Jeremiah 29:11
I have hope because God has a plan for me
We all want to walk through every day with purpose. Do you think that God will reveal His plan for your life some day when you've been good for long enough? That's dangerous theology. God has a plan for your life. Plain and simple. You are worthy of finding out what that plan is - simply by merit of you placing your faith in Christ. If God had to wait for all His people to be "good" before He could use them...He'd be waiting a long time. Hope: Your desires + the expectation that God is working on your behalf to bring about His will in the situation.

Wednesday - 11/3
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
This doesn't mean that everything we set out to do will be a success. It means that God will be with you no matter what you do. Claiming this truth - that you can do all things - allows you to take risks.
Even if you commit a mistake - through this truthful filter, you'll see it as a learning step, not a failure. God works to strengthen your inner spirit...that is more powerful than if all your circumstances turned out just like you want them to.

See you tonight!

Here is some more information that Lisa wanted to share:

Several GEMS are wondering more about our authority to command demons -- and we need to have Scriptural support for this empowering spiritual endeavor.

Bible verses that speak to this: Luke 11:24-26, Mark 12:43-45, Mark 9:24

Below are some Biblical commentaries that expound on this more.

When commanding evil to go - we must verbally command it to leave, bind it by commanding it to never return and send it to arid places where it will be tormented -- all through the power and authority of Jesus Christ.

Luke 11:24 That there was a vast difference between the devil’s going out by compact and his being cast out by compulsion. Those out of whom Christ cast him he never entered into again, for so was Christ’s charge (Mk. 9:25); whereas, if he had gone out, whenever he saw fit he would have made a re-entry, for that is the way of the unclean spirit, when he voluntarily and with design goes out of a man, v. 24–26. The prince of the devils may give leave, nay, may give order, to his forces to retreat, or make a feint, to draw the poor deluded soul into an ambush; but Christ, as he gives a total, so he gives a final, defeat to the enemy. In this part of the argument he has a further intention, which is to represent the stat e of those who have had fair offers made them,—among whom, and in whom, God has begun to break the devil’s power and overthrow his kingdom,—but they reject his counsel against themselves, and relapse into a state of subjection to Satan.
Here we have, Henry, Matthew: Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible : Complete and Unabridged in One Volume. Peabody : Hendrickson, 1996, c1991, S. Lk 11:24

Mark 9:24
“Help me overcome my unbelief” (9:24). Faith has two aspects: objective and subjective. Objectively our faith is in Jesus, and He is unshakable. Subjectively our faith is often mixed with hesitancy and doubt. The way to overcome uncertainty is to remember that what makes faith valid is not its subjective strength, but the trustworthiness of its object. We can confidently affirm this truth: “I can’t, but Jesus can.”
“Only by prayer” (9:29). We can never take for granted any authority God has given us (cf. 6:67). Any ministry must be performed in total reliance on the Lord.
Richards, Lawrence O.: The Bible Readers Companion. electronic ed. Wheaton : Victor Books, 1991; Published in electronic form by Logos Research Systems, 1996, S. 641

Mark 9:24 The main lesson of this miracle is the power of faith to overcome the enemy (Mark 9:19, 23–24; and see Matt. 17:20). Why had the nine disciples failed? Because they had been careless in their personal spiritual walk and had neglected prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). The authority that Jesus had given them was effective only if exercised by faith, but faith must be cultivated through spiritual discipline and devotion. It may be that the absence of their Lord, or His taking the three disciples with Him and leaving them behind, had dampened their spiritual fervor and diminished their faith. Not only did their failure embarrass them, but it also robbed the Lord of glory and gave the enemy opportunity to criticize. It is our faith in Him that glorifies God (Rom. 4:20).
Wiersbe, Warren W.: The Bible Exposition Commentary. Wheaton, Ill. : Victor Books, 1996, c1989, S. Mk 9:14

I will post the Bible Reading later this evening! Enjoy ladies!!!

Thoughts.......

Good Morning Sweet GEMS!

Happy Lord's Day! 10/10/10 - What memories will you make today?

I plan to go to church and worship with friends and family! I have my bags ready for the Food Drive and will share with others! It promises to be a beautiful day and my kids, a friend and I are going to take a ride this afternoon to celebrate God's gorgeous creation in the changing of the colors, the warm breeze, the fields that have been harvested, and hopefully some of His wildlife. Can't wait! I love being a Mom and spending time with my kids.

I just read a quote this morning that I wanted to share:
"God did not give you your children so you could fix them or whip them into shape. God gave you your children to make you more like Jesus!" ~Donna Partrow

What an awesome responsibility! God has blessed me with two beautiful children and I love them so very much. I want to become more like Jesus everyday, as I know I am a child of God! HE is always there/here for me and I can lean on Him and know that all things work together for good for those that love the Lord! I can find grace and mercy in time of need! I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. As I care and raise my children, I do and will remember these things! We are so blessed! May our children, our little gems see Jesus in us each and every day! I am not saying that it is easy, but I am confident that the good work God has begun in me will be perfected! I am a work in progress!!!! Praise God - HE isn't finished with me yet!

I love y'all and will be praying for you today and every day!
"As for me and my house - we will serve the Lord!"

The rest of the Bible Reading!

Hey GEMS!
I am posting the rest of the Bible Reading Schedule and I apologize for not getting it all done the other morning. At least you shouldn't have missd any days! :o) Read on and enjoy!

Love y'all!
Cheri Lynn

10/10/10 - Sunday Isn't it great that a once in a century happening is happening on the Lord's Day? Did you see the date? 10/10/10 Wow! Awesome! (Sorry, I get excited about little things like this!?)
Romans 8:35-39
I cannot be separated from the love of God
He does not put up any barriers between Him and us...we conjure up the barriers with our sin -- our refusal to turn from it. God is always there ready to love you.

10/11 - Monday
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
I have been established, annoited and sealed by God
Being a daughter of God should not be an afterthought. You have been sealed - bought at a very dear price...and have been given the Holy Spirit to live in you! Your inheritance -- what is to come -- is your continued walk with Christ for eternity...which began the moment you accepted Christ.

10/12 - Tuesday
Colossians 3:3
I am hidden with Christ in God
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, you died...to your old ways of doing things. This is not something you grow into -- you need to truly understand that the old you IS dead...do not listen to the lies that say you will never change. Tap into your identity...you already died -- now enjoy your new life!

10/13 - Wednesday
Philippians 1:6
I am confident that the good work God has begun in me will be perfected
There are two truths here: 1 - God has something going on in your life. 2 - What He has started in you is destined to happen...because HE started it! Have you asked God what is the "good work" that He has for you?

10/14 - Thursday
Philippians 3:20
I am a citizen of heaven
Where is your focus? If the things of this world freak you out, you are living as though you are a citizen of this world. Christians are eternal, heavenly people. The things of this world become less intimidating when you truly understand that you are a citizen of heaven.

10/15 - Friday
2 Timothy 1:7
I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind
The only thing we should fear is God...in an attitude of reverence and awe. Nothing else is worthy of us fearing. God gives us love, power to handle things and a sound mind to work through them.

10/16 - Saturday
Hebrews 4:16
I can find grace and mercy in time of need
God gives you what you need...even when you might not think you deserve it...that's grace. It is yours because the Bible says so. It is His to decide when He will show you His grace -- but we know He is a gracious God.

10/17 - Sunday
1 John 5:18-20
I am born of God and the evil one cannot touch me
The name of Jesus is more powerful that any evil in the world. You are God's child -- and you can rebuke evil in Jesus' name. Talk about security!

10/18 - Monday
Proverbs 29:25
I find my security in the Lord -- not any man
People have agendas, and when we don't fit them, they can withdraw their love, attention, and support. They will look for people who will let them be lord over them. Jesus is all we need...by fully trusting Him, we can trust that He will keep us safe.

10/19 - Tuesday
Romans 5:3-5
I am secure enough in my trust in God that I can persevere through difficult times
"Running away from difficult situations is not where our hope lies. God's plan is that we 'hang in there' and grow up. Our hope lies in proven character, not in favorable circumstances." (Anderson)

10/20 - Wednesday
Romans 6:8-14
I am secure in knowing that I am dead to sin through the blood of Jesus.
"It is important to realize that we do not make ourselves dead to sin by considering it so; we consider it so because it is so." (Anderson)

See you tonight at GEMS!!

Our Bible Reading Schedule 10/7 - 10/20

Hey GEMS:
I will have the whole schedule out in the next day or so, but I only have time to put a couple days out here right now! I am praying for y'all!

10/7 - Thursday
Romans 8:1-2
I am free forever from condemnation
We know Jesus forgives, but it can be hard to really accept His gift. Satan wants to make us doubt Jesus - and will put the thoughts in front of us like "If they only knew what you did....you will never be clean...you will never be smart enough...you just play at being spiritual....there is no way God can forgive 'this sin'" The TRUTH is that Jesus does not condemn us when we confess our sin.

10/8 - Friday
Romans 8:28
I am assured that all things work together for good
The Bible does not promise that things will be smooth sailing since you become a Christian. It does promise thatHe'll never leave nor forsake us. Even the messes in our lives can become a means to glorify God when we submit the situation to Him.

10/9 - Saturday
Romans 8:33-34
I am free from any condemning charges against me
"Satan can't do anything about our position in Christ. However, if he can get us to believe our position isn't true, we will live as though it is not." (Anderson) Choose to believe the truth instead of listening to the lies.

Hallelujah - What a Savior!!!!

Good Morning my beautiful GEMS and sisters in Christ!

I just want you to know that I am praying for you today and that I love each of you! I am still flying high from last evening and know that God is and is going to do amazing things in our midst this year! Woo Hoo!!!!!!

Lisa leaves this morning for the DR and I told her we would all be praying for her! If you can, stop right now as your reading and say a prayer for her and the women and the ministry/conference which she is participating. Thank you! She will be back on Monday and I hope she will share some of the highlights with us and maybe I can even post some pictures.

Wasn't the lesson shared last night powerful. Our identity in Christ!!!! I am posting the Bible verses Lisa gave us last night, as she indicated I would. I am going to write each one on a card and have it for easy reference.
Don't forget your "homework" for your Small Group Meetings! Some of the questions are very thought provoking. Be sure to be in the Word and before His Throne in prayer as you study your questions! HE will guide and we will follow and grow together!!!

I love y'all!
Cheri Lynn

Here are the verses!

9/23 - Thursday
John 1:12-13
I am God's child!
Does it seem too good to be true that God loves you just exactly as you are? I think the key to embracing this truth is in verse 13...it's not because I am so great that He loves me and accepts me...it's because He wants to...it's His will.

9/24 - Friday
John 15:15
I am Christ's friend!
He calls us friend - and He has made everything known to us through daily reading the Bible, praying, and simply enjoying being in His presence. Today, really focus on talking to God as your friend...tell Him about every little thing that you are doing...just like you would to a friend on a cell phone...."call" on Him.

9/25 - Saturday
Romans 5:1
I have been justified!
Justified means being declared "not guilty". Even though you have sinned, when you ask Jesus to be your Savior and believe in Him, God does not hold your sins against you. If He did, Jesus died on the cross for no reason. Jesus died for your sins. Accept that grace and walk in confidence today.

9/26 - Sunday
1 Corinthians 6:17
I am united with the Lord!
You know those things that you just don't seem to be able to break free of? Think of it in the right way...you are united to God...ALL THE TIME. When you choose to sin, He is with you...and you are denying the Holy Spirit in you. Once you are His child, you cannot have God on a "sort of" basis. You are united. Live today thinking about the FACT that the Holy Spirit lives in you.

9/27 - Monday
1 Corinthians 6:19b-20
I have been bought with a price. I belong to Him!
We all want to "fit in" and be part of something. Because He loves you...and always has, He laid down His life for you...and He did it for me. This blows me away when I really stop to absorb it. I am that important...I am that necessary to Him...the God of the Universe paid for me. That should make every one of us stand up taller and stronger...and willing to do things His way.

9/28 - Tuesday
1 Corinthians 12:27
I am a member of Christ's Body!
Because He paid for me, I am connected to every person who has committed to living for Him. As I reach out, these Christians become more than folks at church...they become my brothers and sisters...and we are blood relatives...we are related by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

9/29 - Wednesday
Ephesians 1:18-19a
I am a saint!
This was big news to me when I learned it. I always thought saints were incredibly religious, perfect, extraordinary people. Turns out, that's not what the Bible says. Saints are Christians; people who are holy (set apart) and who follow God's ways. Yes, we sin, but we are not sinners. Romans 5:8 tells us that Christ dies for us "while we were sinners". Once we accept Him by faith, we become a saint.

9/30 - Thursday
Ephesians 1:5
I have been adopted as God's child!
Not only are you God's child...but you are a chosen child. It's not that God is stuck with you because He gave birth to you...He has adopted you...chosen you. That adds an extra dose of love...I'm His because He chose to have me.

10/1 - Friday
Ephesians 2:18
I have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit!
We do not need an earthly priest to talk to God for us. The Bible is clear: Jesus is our high priest forever. (Hebrews 4:14-16) He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in believers (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Holy Spirit in us allows us to speak directly to our Father.

10/2 - Saturday
Colossians 1:14
I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins!
Back up and read verses 9-14. WOW! Now that you know you are a saint, understand that all of those promises there are for you! You are forgiven. In order to live life in the "kingdom of light" - to live freely, we need to accept that forgiveness...and forgive ourselves.

10/3 - Sunday
Colossians 2:9-10
I am complete in Christ!
The NIV Bible says "fulness", but most other translations say "in Him you have been made complete". Without Jesus being full part of your life, you are incomplete. You will try to fill your hurts, anger, pain, depression and disappointments with things that are destructive. They can never fill you - only He can.

10/4 - Monday
Psalm 139:13-14
I am wonderfully made!
The truth is that you are fearfully (awesomely) and wonderfully made. Your Heavenly Father has known you since before you were born. There is nothing junky about someone that God has made. If you do not accept that you are wonderful, it is very difficult to act wonderfully! Accept the truth - you are wonderful. Act like it today.

10/5 - Tuesday
Genesis 1:26-27
I am created by God!
Sometimes we forget and we give our parents all the credit for "creating" us. The truth is that you were created by God. It wasn't man's idea to come up with the way to make babies! God has always known you. You are His precious creation.

10/6 - Wednesday
2 Corinthians 3:18
I am being transformed!
God did not stop with His creation of you...He continues to work in your life to transform you from your old (or current) selfish ways. His Holy Spirit, living in you, is pushing against the sin in your life...the sin that has you in bondage. As you turn from old ways, you walk toward good and righteous things. This is holy and transformed living.

See y'all tonight (10/6)!!!

Tribute to a Single Mom

Happy Mother's Day all you beautiful ladies!

Lisa sent the following to me and I thought I would share! Enjoy!

TRIBUTE TO A SINGLE MOTHER

Parenting is never easy,
But it’s widely known
That raising children is still harder
When you’re all alone.

All the duties two would split
Are now maintained by one.
With so little help
It’s often hard to get things done.

This is why the single mother
Gets our highest praise.
Her life of sharing has a way
Of filling up her days.

She’s asked to be both warm and loving.
Filled with patience rare;
But when her strength is needed,
She is also firm and fair.

She must fill in where fathers do,
Expand her mother’s role.
To every new requirement
She gives her heart and soul.

She seldom gets her proper share
Of rest and relaxation.
Her life is one of sacrifice
And selfless dedication.

She gives so much and asks so little
Of the world around her
That one could say that fate has blessed
The children who surround her.

The Discipline of Service: March 3, 2010

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." Colossians 3:23

The Discipline of Service
John 13:1-17

1. Jesus modeled being a servant: Phil. 2:6-11; Acts 3:13, 26; 4:27, 30; Isa. 53
2. Jesus knew who He was. (Jn 13:3) - He was from God and returning to God
3. Jesus' service was not showy. (Jn13:4)
4. To be strong in the discipline of service, we must understand the difference between service and self-righteous service.
5. Christian service involves: * surrendering (more) time and rights
* understanding God's economy
* wanting to live this lifestyle through prayer,
confession, repentance and listening
Serve in and by: Hidden things; Small things; Guarding other' reputations; Being served; common courtesy; Hospitality; Listening; Bearing others' burdens; Sharing the Word; and Furthering the Kingdom!

Act of Service: so you can check it off your list as done (leaves you exhausted)
you pick whom you will serve
we fit it in - when it is good for us

Being a Servant: never feel like you are done (doesn't exhaust you, but fills you up)
He shows you who to serve and you don't care
Let's go and let Him show you
Serve no matter what - be sensitive

Will you SERVE? Bring Him Glory!!!!!!

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." Colossians 3:23

Bible Reading for March 4th - March 17th

Hey Ladies!

Here are the Bible Reading passages for the next two weeks! Enjoy!

Thursday - March 4th
Phil. 2:1-11
This is a remarkable passage about Jesus' example of Him becoming a servant in order to fulfill God's will. If He would do it, we should follow His example to serve others.

Friday - March 5th
Matt. 20:26-28
In this passage Jesus is getting to the heart of having a servant mindset. He clearly states what His definition of greatness is...those who serve others are great in God's eyes.

Saturday - March 6th
Luke 22:24-30
Jesus talks here to His disciples and again, He redefines greatness. He assures His disciples (and it transfers to us) that when they serve, their reward will be great.

Sunday - March 7th
Mark 9:33-37
Those rascals! They were arguing AGAIN about who was the greatest! Jesus takes a child and points out that serving in the small things is BIG in His eyes. Where is God calling you to serve in His kingdom?

Monday - March 8th
1 Cor. 10:24
Short and sweet! This passage is about our freedom in Christ...and using our freedom in constructive ways. Serving others is a GREAT way to be seeking the good of others.

Tuesday - March 9th
Gal. 6:1-10
Many of the aspects of serving are found here: guarding others' reputation, small things, bearing other's loads, serving in the kingdom...and more!

Wednesday - March 10th
Rom. 12:1-8
Another great passage about how we should view ourselves...as a person who lives to please God. What gifts has He given to you that you can offer back to Him?

Thursday - March 11th
Matt. 24:36-51
I thought this was an interesting look at not putting off being plugged in and serving. We never know when Christ will return...we want to be serving Him when He does! If we would live every day in that way, His peace would reign in our lives.

Friday - March 12th
2 Tim. 2:22-26
Look at Paul's words to the young pastor, Timothy. The guiding thought in this passage is for those who follow God to do so with humility and strong character. It's about having a servant's heart...not just "doing" acts of service.

Saturday - March 13th
Gal. 5:13-15
Wow - Paul could cut to a point in a powerful way! He writes here that we should not use our freedom to look out for ourselves...but to serve others in love!

Sunday - March 14th
James 2:14-17
Good deeds will not get us saved - only faith in Christ gives us salvation. But if you have put your faith in Him, He expects His followers to be actively doing good deeds for others as an expression of their faith.

Monday - March 15th
Matt. 25:31-46
Jesus teaches about the importance of having a servant's heart in the way we interact with others.

Tuesday - March 16th
John 12:23-28
This is a packed passage. Jesus is talking about His mission as a servant...to save the world by laying down His life. He also says that those who follow Him will be like Him by serving others and ministering to them in Jesus' name.

Wednesday - March 17th
Matt. 25:21
At the end of the day, this is all I want to hear from my Lord.

See you tonight!!!!!!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Bible Reading Passages 2/18 - 3/3/2010

Here you go ladies! Let's read together and be fed!

Thursday - February 18th
Matt. 7:13-14
These verses talk about the need to submit to God's ways of living our lives. The message is beautiful - God's ways lead to LIFE!

Friday - February 19th
Rom. 15:1-3
Paul writes to instruct us on putting others' needs above our own as we follow Christ's example.

Saturday - February 20th
1 Corinthians 10:23-24
This passage tells us that while it's possible to do whatever we want - everything does not lead to good things.

Sunday - February 21st
1 Cor. 10:31-11:1
Living our lives in ways that honor others is a way that we can be a good witness for the Christian faith.

Monday - February 22nd
1 Cor. 13:4-7
Ultimately, love is the only reason we would choose a life of submission. It is our response to the love of God first showed us.

Tuesday - February 23rd
Phil. 2:1-5
Another beautifully written passage illustrating the biblical approach to submission.

Wednesday - February 24th
Luke 14:7-11
These verses give a practical look at how being submissive leads to others having a higher view of us.

Thursday - February 25th
Luke 18:9-14
Here is another passage about the benefit of humility. The tax collector was not being submissive to the Pharisee - but submissive to the power of God's truth.

Friday - February 26th
Rom. 12:9-21
Paul writes about the connection between love and considering others above yourself.

Saturday - February 27th
Eph. 4:1-6
Bear with one another...in love. Love is the key to choosing life of submission to others.

Sunday - February 28th
John 12:23-28
Jesus models how He submits to God's plan for the world...and what He expects of those who follow Him.

Monday - March 1st
John 6:35-40
Jesus Christ is the Messiah and the Savior of all. Look at His incredible understanding of submission in verse 38.

Tuesday - March 2nd
Phil 3:7-14
This is a look at a life lived according to God's ways. We do not lose - even though we have to let go of some things...they lose their appeal compared to the things of God.

Wednesday - March 3rd
Rev. 2:18-19
Wouldn't it be the best feeling in the world to have the Lord speak these words about you?

See y'all tonight at GEMS!!!

Free to Submit: February 17, 2010

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Free to Submit
Mark 8:34

Biblical submission leads to freedom!

1. Submission is the voluntary placement of oneself under the authority and leadership of another. (Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary)

2. Foster (Celebration of Discipline) "Laying down the terrible burden of always needing to get our own way." (pg 111)

3. We are afraid of submission because we fear we will lose our identity.

4. Biblical examples of submission: - Jesus (Matthew 26:36-42)
- Disciples (Mk 1:19-20; Mt 9:9;
Mk 1:16-18; Jn 17:6)
- Paul (Acts 9)
- Mary (Luke 1:26-38)

5. Submitting to others - are there limits to submission?
Yes - when it leads to harm, destruction or hurt.

6. What's in it for me?
Leads to something better - Freedom by choice.
More interesting way of living - putting others before ourselves - looking out
to look in!

7. How do I live a life of submission?
Begin with a look at your inner spirit.

"Then He called the crowd to Him along with His disciples and said: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" -Mark 8:34

- Jesus said this to the whole crowd. (for ALL of us!!)
- Deny yourself - put aside your self-interest.
- Take up your cross, not His. (Deny yourself and publicly let them know you
are Mine.)

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28"
