Hey there GEMS!
What a great night we had last evening! It is so good to be back in the Word with Lisa leading. Here is our Bible Reading for the next two weeks! Enjoy!
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:38
Thursday - March 3rd
2 Timothy 1:7
In order to change our old ways, we must have the Holy Spirit's help. This verse assures us that God gives us love, the power to change and the ability to use self-control over our words. We are not on our own!
Friday - March 4th
Proverbs 15:1
God's Word teaches us about the right use of our words...choose a kind and gentle word over a harsh one. You might have harsh thoughts, but use the self-control of the Holy Spirit to speak gentle words.
Saturday - March 5th
Proverbs 26:20-21
Gossip - another destructive fire we can fuel with our words. The Bible is clear - do not gossip. You might be in a situation where gossip is going on - God asks His daughters to put that fire out by not joining in.
Sunday - March 6th
Ephesians 5:3-4 and Colossians 3:8-9
I love how practical the Word of God is. If you read it, there is no doubt about how God wants us to use our mouths. The growth comes from hearing/reading the Word - and then asking the Holy Spirit for the power to obey. When we do, our lives grow in love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Monday - March 7th
Psalm 50:16-20
Here is yet another look at the kinds of things that people do with their mouths that God detests. If we take part in these activities, we are no different from people who do not believe in God. Being a Christian should make us show a difference in the way we speak and treat our friends and family. Do you treat your family with verbal respect?
Tuesday - March 8th
Romans 12:14 1 Peter 3:9 Matthew 5:44
How do you react when someone attacks you with their words? Maybe they are spreading lies about you...maybe they are getting loud in your face. How do you respond? What do these verses teach us about what God expects? (By the way, these aren't the only places in the Bible that speak about this concept!)
Wednesday - March 9th
1 Corinthians 3:3
Just one verse today - but I want you to really reflect on this. When people listen to you talk, can they tell you are different from the rest of the world - from non-Christians? Do you hold back from gossip, from cussing, from ridiculous, out of control yelling? Do you choose gentle words, positive words? Can the world tell you are different...or do you blend right in?
Thursday - March 10th
Psalm 16:7-9
Last week, we looked at what the Bible says we should not do with our mouths. This week, we'll look at wonderfully positive things that God wants us to do with our mouths!
Friday - March 11th
Psalm 30
Look at all the different things the psalmist does with his words: called out to the Lord, called for help, sing, praise, said, "I will never be shaken", cried for mercy, give thanks to the Lord. Good, good stuff...a much better use of our mouth than some of the destructive stuff we do...just sayin'!
Saturday - March 12th
Psalms 51
I want to challenge you to verbally speak this Psalm out loud today to God. As you read, make this your prayer. There will be certain verses that mean more to you than others. Pray that verse, then let that be a prayer starter for you with God. Use your tongue to speak God's Word out loud to Him - it's really cool.
Sunday - March 13th
Psalm 71
A psalm of praise to God - to bless Him for being there for you. Especially look at verse 8. Let this guide you today - be so intentional about thinking about God that your mouth is filled with praise for God - the splendor of the way He is working in your life. If you're having a bad day, look around at creation...that is beautiful all the time regardless of our circumstances...and praise Him for that beauty.
Monday - March 14th
Acts 2:26
As your heart is filled with gladness because you are being intentional about living for God, your tongue will speak gentle, loving words. When you are training your mind, heart and mouth to speak in a Godly way - you find that your body finds itself in better situations. Our lives are transformed in ways we can not imagine...
Tuesday - March 15th
Matthew 15:11-20 and Luke 6:43-45
Most importantly - what does Jesus say about how we use our mouths? This is a great passage in which He is very clear - whatever you have stored up in your heart is what is going to come out of your mouth. If you find yourself frustrated or embarrassed about the words that come out of your mouth - PRAY PRAY PRAY and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the power to be more like Christ!
Wednesday - March 16th
Ephesians 4:20-32
GREAT passage. As a Christian, you are constantly growing away from the "old" way you did things and going toward the "new" things you are taught - like at GEMS and church and small group. Verse 26 is sometimes a tough one to live out, "Don't go to bed angry." Really focus on verse 29...listen to what you say today and ask yourself, "Did my words build people up - or tear people down?" Let God lead. If you think you shouldn't say something...that's the Holy Spirit telling you "shhhhhh" :o)
See you tonight!!!!

Let's stay in the Word as we do life together. Blessings!!!
Thursday - 12/2
2 Corinthians 5:17
This is an important verse to memorize. When you feel like you are slipping into your "old" ways, claim this truth. You are not that old girl...you are a new creation in Christ. Pray and ask Him to help you continue forward as your new self.
Friday - 12/3
Ephesians 4:22-24
Becoming a new creation is not a magical event. With God's help, you daily, hourly, minute by minute choose to make the attitude of your mind be like God's. He will always lead you toward good things...but you have to choose to do things His way.
Saturday - 12/4
2 Corinthians 10:5
I believe this is one of the most powerful verses to memorize and APPLY in order to live each day with joy and a feeling of victory. In Ephesians we read to be "new in the attitude of your mind." Today's verse tells you how. You do not allow destructive thoughts to take root...you capture that thought and decide to let God show you how to think and act about it.
Sunday - 12/5
Romans 6:18-23
The choice is ours...will we be a slave to the sin in our life---will sin be our master; or will we be a slave to God? Being a slave means that you will do whatever He says because He is your Master. God wants only your best; therefore, being a slave to God actually leads to the most freedom you can possibly have.
Monday - 12/6
Romans 12:1-2
Would God be pleased with the way you handle your body? You are His child; you are a temple for the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)...therefore, offer/use your body in ways that honor God. Renew your mind by taking every thought captive and by spending time with God through prayer, reading the Bible and simply enjoying His presence.
Tuesday - 12/7
Colossians 3:1-11
Walk away from the evil things that control your life. Be pure in your thoughts and actions. Paul specifically talks about the evil that comes out of our mouth (anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, lying). Prayerfully commit today to "put on your new self" and allow the Holy Spirit to help you show self-control over your words.
Wednesday - 12/8
1 Peter 4:1-11
Several good thoughts here: *Peter lists things that we should avoid (1-3) *The friends you hung out with in your "old" life will try to pull you down and back. (4) *The way to stay strong is to live according to God's ways through the strength of the spirit *Use your mouth and your body for good things in the strength of the Holy Spirit (11)
Thursday - 12/9
1 John 2:1-6
The measure of how strong we are in our walk with Christ is if we obey His commands. If you say you're a Christian, but you do whatever you want -- say whatever you want...even though you know God does not approve - you are not living in the truth of what the Bible teaches. Don't walk away; there is no freedom in that. Simply pray and ask God to help you "want to want to" live more like He wants you to in every area of your life.
Friday - 12/10
Psalm 51:10
One of my favorite verses; again, a fantastic memory verse! When you feel pulled to do things in a way that is not God honoring, pray this verse over yourself. When you pray it--it's AMAZING what the Holy Spirit will do in you.
Saturday - 12/11
Philippians 3:7-14
Some days it's really hard to do things God's way! This passage encourages us that living our life outside of God's way is basically just trash :o) (verse 8) Don't look back sister - press on. Do not condemn yourself - thank Jesus that he loves you just like you are...and loves you too much to leave you in your sin.
Sunday - 12/12
Ezekiel 11:19-20
You have to have a "heart of flesh" not a "heart of stone" in order to follow God. Notice the theological truth in this passage: God gives us a new heart. We ask - He gives. It's not by will power that we can be "good". It's by His grace, power and strength. Pray, pray, pray...and believe that He wants to give you a heart of flesh that will allow you to follow Him.
Monday - 12/13
Titus 3:3-8
Here is a picture of God's grace and mercy. He sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to clean us. We are "justified by His grace". This means Jesus died for our sins, and because of that, God declares us "not guilty" for all we've done wrong -- if we believe in Jesus. This is grace. We deserve to be condemned, but God made a way. Never take that for granted. This motivates me to choose His ways...out of a grateful heart.
Tuesday - 12/14
1 John 5:1-5
Trust God - and obey. There is no other way to be fully happy and joy filled. It seems so backward...if I obey what my Father tells me, I'll be happy ~ even though I don't get to do what I want all the time. But look at the blessing that is promised: Follow God and you will overcome the world. Your circumstances will not be able to rob you your joy when God is leading. He will show you how to overcome.
Wednesday - 12/15
Romans 6:1-4
A beautiful picture of Christian "new life" is found in baptism. If you have been baptized, spend a few minutes thinking back to your baptism - thank God for loving you and helping you transform to be more like Him. If you have not been baptized, talk to God about this today. Baptism is not for a perfect person who don't sin...it's for a believer who knows she needs Jesus to guide her. Baptism is simply a public confession that you believe in Jesus and you want to continually be more like Him.
See y'all tonight!
Love ya!

Friday - 11/19
Proverbs 10:19, 13:3, 15:2 (James 1:19-20)
Quick verses to read - so pick one and memorize it. Use it in place of angry words that you are tempted to speak. It's like an "open book test"...you are tested in a situation, and you speak a verse instead of a curse! A+ :o)
Saturday - 11/20
(James 1:19-20)
Below are a number of verses showing us that God says to hold our anger.
Proverbs 14:17, 19
Proverbs 15:18
Proverbs 16:32
Proverbs 25:28
Ecclesiastes 7:9
Sunday - 11/21
2 Timothy 2:22-24 (James 1:21)
These are really powerfully instructing verses. Don't read ahead - just think about these verses today. How do you measure up? Do you like to argue and get angry? Do you want to do what God's Word says: Not quarrel/be kind to everyone?
Monday - 11/22
2 Timothy 2:25-26 (James 1:20)
Here's God's take on arguments: Gently instruct those who oppose you...point them toward God...pray that the other would repent...and come to their senses. But, sister - you better be sure you've got what it says in verse 22: a pure heart yourself!
Tuesday - 11/23
Psalm 139:1-4, 23-24 (James 1:21)
Want to have a pure heart check up? When conflict comes, be strong and courageous - ask the Lord to search your heart and show you if there is something in you that is offensive and needs to be changed.
Wednesday - 11/24
Ephesians 4:22-27 (James 1:21)
We have to choose to put off the old way we did things and, instead do things according to what God's Word says so we can be like God. Thanksgiving is sometimes stressful when we are around challenging family members. Memorize verse 26 - Let God help you have a great day - if you want to get angry, instead, say that verse over and over to replace the angry words!
Thursday - 11/25
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Below are some great verses - all with the word "thanksgiving" in them!
Psalm 69:30
Psalm 95:2
Psalm 100:4
Psalm 147:7
Friday - 11/26
Matthew 7:24-27 (James 1:22-25)
Be doers of The Word. Don't come to church and just hear it, go home and live it. Otherwise, when the storms of life come, you will get tossed around. You have to build your foundation when it's not raining so that you'll stand strong when the time comes.
Saturday - 11/27
Romans 2:7,8 (James 1:22-25)
Do what God's Word says - don't miss His blessings. The bottom line is that if you are not doing what God says to do, you are rejecting the truth - and you turn to things that lead to evil. It's a slippery trap. Keep your eyes on Christ and on God's Word.
Sunday - 11/28
John 8:31-36 (James 1:22-25)
Like the Jews who believed, Jesus says to us that we need to hold to His teaching - because there is liberty in following God's Word. You never have to look over your shoulder or watch your back. Your life is a beautiful open book as you live by the greatest book - The Bible. Following Jesus = Freedom
Monday - 11/29

Bible Reading 11/4 through 11/17
Hey GEMS!!!
I wanted to get the Bible Reading Plan out here so that we can all keep going with our daily reading of His Word.
Here you go! Enjoy!!
Thursday - 11/4
Luke 8:4-15
This is a parable ( a story Jesus used to teach us some truth). What kind of soil are you? Especially notice verse 13 - what happens when you are tested...do you fall away? Verse 15 - how do we show we are good soil? It's that "P" word that we learned in James 1.
Friday - 11/5
1 Corinthians 10:13
This is powerfully good news! No matter what you are tempted with (temptation comes from Satan, not God) - it's not some new thing! Satan uses the same old tricks. God is aware of Satan's schemes, and He will guide you and provide you with ways to get away from the temptation.
Saturday - 11/6
Matthew 6:13
Jesus teaches us how to pray for help in fighting temptation. We must partner with God by praying, "God - give me your eyes to see temptations around me...Lord, I ask you to guide me in making right decisions that prevent mefrom even going near that evil."
Sunday - 11/7
Luke 4:1-12
Jesus was tempted, but He never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21). Notice that Jesus used the Word of God - Bible Verses - to rebuke Satan and have victory over temptation! His example teaches us that we have to know the Bible to grow stronger in our ability to resist temptation.
Monday - 11/8
Luke 4:13
The battle doesn't end just because you have one vistory. Keep your guard up at all times...begin your day in prayer...ask God for the eyes to see temptations and His empowering stength to resist it because Satan will wait for a more opportune time to send his demons to mess with you.
Tuesday - 11/9
Listed are places in the Bible that demonstrate that God is interested in testing His people so they can grow to be more like Him: Genesis 22:1 Exodus 16:4 Exodus 20:20 Deuteronomy 8:2, 16 Deuteronomy 13:3 Judges 2:22 2 Chronicles 32:31 Do not be surprised at tests/trials. They are biblical!
Wednesday - 11/10
1 Peter 1:3-9
Take your time with this passage. It is so full of amazing truth. God speaks clearly of "why" we have trials...how He uses them for our good and for His glory. He talks in this passage about the purpose of life...what the "goal" is...to be His people...to have His joy...
This is an amazing pericope! :o)
Thursday - 11/11
Proverbs 4:10-19
James taught us to ask for wisdom. Here is another look at the benefit of asking for God's wisdom. A careful reading of this text shows us that God provides the wisdom, but we still must take action to appropriate it...to choose God's ways in order that His guidance plays out in our lives.
Friday - 11/12
1 Corinthians 2:6-16
Because we are God's people through our faith in Christ, we are able to understand spiritual things that others - without His Spirit - cannot. Continually pray and ask God to give you more of His wisdom and understanding.
Saturday - 11/13
Ephesians 5:15-21
Here is a practical teaching about living with God's wisdom as your guide. When we are filled with God's wisdom, good things flood our thoughts and our hearts. Out of the overflow of our hearts, we speak and act in ways that build up ourselves and others.
Sunday - 11/14
Ecclesiastes 8:1
Do you recognize the truth in this? When you see a person who looks peaceful, who seems joy filled - their face is what shows that. When you feel confused, overwhelmed, fearful and lost - your faceshows that as well. God's wisdom truly makes us beautiful - inside and out!
Monday - 11/15
Acts 3:1-4:22
Long stroy to read, but you need the context to fully appreciate Acts 4:13. Peter and John were unschooled, ordinary men - but through the power of the Holy Spirit - which they fully allowed to work through them - they were extraordinary in wisdom.
Tuesday - 11/16
Psalm 7
Keeping James 1:13-15 in mind, read Psalm 7:14-16. When we open ourselves up to evil, it takes root and grows. Now read Psalm 7:10-13, 17. God is your shield against the plots, schemes and works of evil. Stay close to Him through prayer and you will walk in His righteousness.
Wednesday - 11/17
1 Peter 5:6-10
Be on your guard and stand firm in your faith. Don't be surprised by trials...stand strong in the truth that God provides you a way to resist evil and temptation through prayer, reading the Word and being in fellowship with other Christians. :o)
See you tonight!!
God tests His
peopleListed are places in the Bible that demonstrate that God is interested in testing His people so they can grow to be more like Him: Genesis 22:1 Exodus 16:4 Exodus 20:20 Deuteronomy 8:2, 16 Deuteronomy 13:3 Judges 2:22 2 Chronicles 32:31 Do not be surprised at tests/trials.

Sunday - 10/24
Acts 1:8

Does your heart break when you think of all the people who do not have Jesus in their lives? Who comes to mind that you personally know? Will you pray and ask God to give you opportunities to be a witness to those people this week?
Monday - 10/25
2 Corinthians 5:17-20
I am a minister of reconciliation
We are ambassadors for Christ to everyone we meet. We could have the awesome privilege of helping lead them to reconcile with God...but only if we truly understand that God works through us - His ministers.
Tuesday - 10/26
2 Corinthians 6:1
I am God's coworker
What work has God called you to? Which of His people is He entrusting to your care? Whom does He need you to demonstrate His grace to this week?
Wednesday - 10/27
Colossians 3:23
My work is significant because i am working for the Lord
You, my sister, are not waiting for God to bring significant work to you. Wherever He has you right now...that is the work that He has for you right now. Be faithful in the small things so He may trust you with more. (Matthew 25:21)
Thursday - 10/28
Ephesians 2:6
I am sealed with Christ in the heavenly realm
Because of our position in/with Christ, we also have been given authority - the authority to do God's will. We do not need to fear Satan - we have the responsibility and authority to rebuke him in Jesus name.
Friday - 10/29
Ephesians 3:12
I may approach God with freedom and confidence
What famous person would you like to meet? You'd probably feel nervous if you actually got to meet him/her.
As thrilling as that would be...consider that 24/7, you have complete access to the God of the universe...the God who made that famous person you'd like to meet. How amazing that He allows us that free access.
Saturday - 10/30
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
I am God's temple
You are God's dwelling place. You cannot go anywhere, do anything or say anything that He is unaware of...because He is dwelling in you! You bring Him glory when you use your temple to build up others, to serve, to quietly get filled up through His Word. On the other hand, you defile His temple when you abuse your body, when you utter words that are destructive or you go your own way. Pray for a deeper understanding of what it means to be God's temple.
Sunday - 10/31
Ephesians 2:10
I am God's workmanship
You are God's workmanship...not your parents, your friends, your spiritual leaders, your boss....
God has created you for His pleasure and purpose. There is no sense in looking to others for approval. God created you - God has gifted you - God has a purpose for you.
Monday - 11/1
Isaiah 41:9-10
I am strengthened and upheld because I am a child of God.
You have been chosen...it doesn't get much more significant that that! Don't question "if" you were chosen. When you accept Christ by faith, you are getting into agreement with God's will for your life...because He chose to love you. Becuase you are chosen, this Scripture tells us that God has you - strengthening you - upholding you.
Appropriate it.
Tuesday - 11/2 Election Day - Don't forget to vote!!!
Jeremiah 29:11
I have hope because God has a plan for me
We all want to walk through every day with purpose. Do you think that God will reveal His plan for your life some day when you've been good for long enough? That's dangerous theology. God has a plan for your life. Plain and simple. You are worthy of finding out what that plan is - simply by merit of you placing your faith in Christ. If God had to wait for all His people to be "good" before He could use them...He'd be waiting a long time. Hope: Your desires + the expectation that God is working on your behalf to bring about His will in the situation.
Wednesday - 11/3
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
This doesn't mean that everything we set out to do will be a success. It means that God will be with you no matter what you do. Claiming this truth - that you can do all things - allows you to take risks.
Even if you commit a mistake - through this truthful filter, you'll see it as a learning step, not a failure. God works to strengthen your inner spirit...that is more powerful than if all your circumstances turned out just like you want them to.
See you tonight!
Thursday - 10/21
Matthew 5:13-16
I am the salt and light of the earth
Like salt, you are here to preserve
God's truth and to flavor this world with God's love. He needs you to shine His light in the darkness. No matter where you go today, be some "light salt"!Friday - 10/22
John 15:5

Here is some more information that Lisa wanted to share:
Several GEMS are wondering more about our authority to command demons -- and we need to have Scriptural support for this empowering spiritual endeavor.
Bible verses that speak to this: Luke 11:24-26, Mark 12:43-45, Mark 9:24
Below are some Biblical commentaries that expound on this more.
When commanding evil to go - we must verbally command it to leave, bind it by commanding it to never return and send it to arid places where it will be tormented -- all through the power and authority of Jesus Christ.
Luke 11:24 That there was a vast difference between the devil’s going out by compact and his being cast out by compulsion. Those out of whom Christ cast him he never entered into again, for so was Christ’s charge (Mk. 9:25); whereas, if he had gone out, whenever he saw fit he would have made a re-entry, for that is the way of the unclean spirit, when he voluntarily and with design goes out of a man, v. 24–26. The prince of the devils may give leave, nay, may give order, to his forces to retreat, or make a feint, to draw the poor deluded soul into an ambush; but Christ, as he gives a total, so he gives a final, defeat to the enemy. In this part of the argument he has a further intention, which is to represent the stat e of those who have had fair offers made them,—among whom, and in whom, God has begun to break the devil’s power and overthrow his kingdom,—but they reject his counsel against themselves, and relapse into a state of subjection to Satan.
Here we have, Henry, Matthew: Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible : Complete and Unabridged in One Volume. Peabody : Hendrickson, 1996, c1991, S. Lk 11:24
Mark 9:24
“Help me overcome my unbelief” (9:24). Faith has two aspects: objective and subjective. Objectively our faith is in Jesus, and He is unshakable. Subjectively our faith is often mixed with hesitancy and doubt. The way to overcome uncertainty is to remember that what makes faith valid is not its subjective strength, but the trustworthiness of its object. We can confidently affirm this truth: “I can’t, but Jesus can.”
“Only by prayer” (9:29). We can never take for granted any authority God has given us (cf. 6:67). Any ministry must be performed in total reliance on the Lord.
Richards, Lawrence O.: The Bible Readers Companion. electronic ed. Wheaton : Victor Books, 1991; Published in electronic form by Logos Research Systems, 1996, S. 641
Mark 9:24 The main lesson of this miracle is the power of faith to overcome the enemy (Mark 9:19, 23–24; and see Matt. 17:20). Why had the nine disciples failed? Because they had been careless in their personal spiritual walk and had neglected prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). The authority that Jesus had given them was effective only if exercised by faith, but faith must be cultivated through spiritual discipline and devotion. It may be that the absence of their Lord, or His taking the three disciples with Him and leaving them behind, had dampened their spiritual fervor and diminished their faith. Not only did their failure embarrass them, but it also robbed the Lord of glory and gave the enemy opportunity to criticize. It is our faith in Him that glorifies God (Rom. 4:20).

Thoughts.......
Good Morning Sweet GEMS!
Happy Lord's Day! 10/10/10 - What memories will you make today?
I plan to go to church and worship with friends and family! I have my bags ready for the Food Drive and will share with others! It promises to be a beautiful day and my kids, a friend and I are going to take a ride this afternoon to celebrate God's gorgeous creation in the changing of the colors, the warm breeze, the fields that have been harvested, and hopefully some of His wildlife. Can't wait! I love being a Mom and spending time with my kids.
I just read a quote this morning that I wanted to share:
"God did not give you your children so you could fix them or whip them into shape. God gave you your children to make you more like Jesus!" ~Donna Partrow
What an awesome responsibility! God has blessed me with two beautiful children and I love them so very much. I want to become more like Jesus everyday, as I know I am a child of God! HE is always there/here for me and I can lean on Him and know that all things work together for good for those that love the Lord! I can find grace and mercy in time of need! I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. As I care and raise my children, I do and will remember these things! We are so blessed! May our children, our little gems see Jesus in us each and every day! I am not saying that it is easy, but I am confident that the good work God has begun in me will be perfected! I am a work in progress!!!! Praise God - HE isn't finished with me yet!
I love y'all and will be praying for you today and every day!
