Thursday, August 30th - 1 Samuel 1:9-18

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Samuel 1:9-18 ~ Hannah prayed for God to help her.  I love verse 18 - she prayed, then she was relieved.  What is your response to bad times in your life?

Hannah turned to God when there was no where else to go.  She poured out her soul to Him and He listened.  Eli, the priest thought she was drunk, but when she told him what she was doing he understood and encouraged her.  Eli said that she should go in peace and may the God of Israel grant her request.Eli did not know what she had prayed or asked of God.  Hannah had asked for a son and in turn would give the child back to the Lord for His service for all the days of his life.
After Eli encourages her, Hannah went and ate and was no longer downcast.  She had poured out her soul to God and had been relieved of her misery.

Lisa asks the question:  What is your response to bad times in your life?  How do you react to things gone wrong or not the way you had planned?  I know someone that approaches everything with a smile.  Her world can be crumbling down around her and she will still find the slightest glimmer of hope and joy.  No, she is not perfect, but I like her approach to life's bad times.  God has taken me through tougher things and He will not forget me or let me down this time!  What a response!

How will you respond the next time you encounter less than ideal circumstances?  Will you pray and praise Him or swim in your disappointment and misery?  Your choice!!

Have a fantastic day!

Wednesday, August 29th - 1 Samuel 1:1-8

Good Morning!

Please pray for all those that are affected with Hurricane Isaac this morning.  It started late last night and there are over 438,000 people/families without electricity all through Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Samuel 1:1-8 ~ In a day where no kids = failure, Peninnah rubbed Hannah's face in her lack of a child.  Don't brag about the gifts God gives you!

Peninnah was a naughty little woman!  She really took part in childish games and adult feeling of jealousy.  The story is the same in that Elkanah loved Hannah more and always gave her more after the sacrifices.  Pinannah saw this and took it out on Hannah.  Year after year after year and Hannah was weary and hurt and frustrated.  She wept and wouldn't eat and her husband asked why as he didn't understand.  His last question shows he does not understand how Hannah felt - "Don't I mean more to you than ten sons?"

Have you ever felt hurt or distraught because of another bragging?  It is not a good feeling. God can get us through those times and even though we hurt, He can heal.  It may not be in the way we think or desire, but it happens and then as we look back we can see His Hand in it all.  On the other side of the coin, we need to refrain from the bragging about anything.  That is not how God wants His children to act.  Being thankful for the blessings of your children or other things that God has blessed you with is different than bragging about them.
Be careful!

"Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."  Isaiah 40:30,31

Go and soar today!  Love y'all!

Tuesday, August 28th - Mark 16:9-11/John 20:1-16

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Mark 16:9-11/John 20:1-16 ~ The risen Lord appeared to Mary Magdalene!  I love how God chooses to bless people no matter what their past.

I mentioned yesterday that Mary Magdalene was committed to Jesus Christ and was grateful for all He had done for her.  She showed her gratitude by serving Him and she was the first to see the risen Lord!  Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene first!  Wow!  The others didn't believe her when she told them.

In John we get a little more of the story.  Mary had gone early to the tomb and saw the rock rolled away.  She thought the body of Jesus had been stolen or taken.  She went and told Peter and the others and they went running to the tomb too.  They saw and they believed, and went on their way back to the house.  Mary Magdalene stayed and mourned the loss of her Lord.  However, the angels told her not to cry and then the Master, the Lord Jesus asked her why she was crying for He was there.  Mary probably wanted to hug Him, but she had to wait as He hadn't gone to the Father yet.
Mary had had seven demons and yet God chose her to see Jesus first!  Wow!  She knew it was Him and she worshipped Him even then.  Mary was sold out to Christ and to God and served Him all the rest of her days.

What are you sold out to in this day and age?  Would you give everything up and serve the Lord God in another country or area?  Would you serve Him with all that you have?  What will be your answer?

Love and prayers,

Monday, August 27th - Luke 8:1-3

Good Morning!

Today is my daughter's 5th "Gotcha Day" or Adoption Birthday!  We will have a celebration tonight and it will be a great time.  My kids both celebrate two birthdays and we love it that way!  They are each just about six months from their actual birthdays.  It's awesome!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Luke 8:1-3 ~ Jesus freed Mary Magdalene of 7 demons.  Out of her gratitude, she committed her life to serving Him.  What has Christ brought you through?

Mary Magdalene is mentioned several times in the New Testament and continually showed her gratitude to Jesus for freeing her from the seven demons.  As it says in this passage she showed her gratitude by ministering to Jesus and helped support Him out of her own means.  She is at the cross and again at the grave.

Back to Lisa's question:  What has Christ brought you through?  Has He brought you out of drugs, adultery, a promiscuous life, financial problems or just brought you out of the darkness?  How do you show your gratitude?  Are you living for Him daily?  Do you spend more time with Jesus on a daily basis?  Do you allow Him to take the controls?  Do you share His Good News?

I hope that when others see me - they see Jesus.  He has been with me every step of the way and I look forward to the next day knowing that I will have opportunities to share His love with others.  I can only do life through HIS strength.  How about you?

Father God, thank You for loving me when I was unlovable; thank You for walking beside me every step of the way; thank You for giving me the strength to face each new day; and thank you for the many blessings you have poured out on me - especially my children.  Thank You God that I have the opportunity and choice to put You first in my life and to serve You with all that I am!  I love You!

Happy Monday!

Sunday, August 26th - 2 Timothy 4:9-22

Good Sunday morning!

Praise the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me, praise the Lord!  Hallelujah!  This is my song this morning as I have listened to the rain fall ever so gently, as I watched the sun begin to rise, and as I prepare for the day ahead.  I will praise God for all His bountiful blessings upon us and for His grace!  We serve an almighty, awesome and powerful God!  Praise be to His name!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 2 Timothy 4:9-22 ~ Even as Paul is dealing with bad stuff, he thinks fondly of Priscilla and Aquila.  Are you the kind of friend who lifts others up?

Paul was really having a hard time and gets really personal in this passage.  He asks for Timothy to come quickly as he needs a friend and co-worker to encourage him.  He wants Mark to come too, as both are helpful in his ministry.  In verse 13 we find Paul asking for Timothy to bring his coat and books (scrolls/parchments).  Doesn't that sound like us when we call or email a friend that we left something behind and can they please bring it to us.  He talks about being on guard of those that oppose the Message.  We need to listen to this warning as well!
Verse 17 is very important in that Paul explains how the Lord stood beside him and provided the strength he needed to preach the Word to all the Gentiles.  God was with him and delivered him from harm.  He goes on to say that the Lord will rescue him from every evil and take him safely Home to His Heavenly Kingdom!  All glory to God forever and ever!
Even in the midst of his troubles, he remembers his friends and sends them greetings.  Priscilla and Aquila are first on the list.

There are a lot of practical things we can take from this passage and begin to practice in our own lives.  Communication - talk with your co-workers, your friends and express your feelings to them and with them.  Teamwork - work together to accomplish the tasks at hand and to share the Good News!  Don't try to do it all yourself! Be an encouragement to each other!  Listen - hear the warnings of your mentors and coaches and close friends to be aware of those that oppose you.  Lean on each other and encourage one another.  Dependency - know that God will be with you all the way and that He will provide the strength you need for any situation.  He will rescue you and take you safely HOME to His Heavenly Kingdom where you will live eternally with Him.  Maranatha!!!

What is your answer to the question Lisa asks - Are you the kind of friend who lifts others up?  I hope after reading this passage and with the daily devotions provided here, that if you can't answer with a yes now, that you will soon be able to shout - YES!

Have a super Sunday and a great beginning to your week!

Saturday, August 25th - Romans 16:3-5

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Romans 16:3-5 ~ Priscilla used her house for God's work.  How do you use your house - your car - your possessions in service to God?

Paul was a great mentor and coach and had trained Priscilla and Aquila well.  He stayed in touch with them and loved them.  They had risked their lives for Paul and he recognized that and their dedication to God's work.
Priscilla had a church meeting at her house.  I am sure that there was always a meeting of some sort going on in her home - Bible Study, women's group, and church.  Her home was God's house in that she used it for Him at all times.

Back to Lisa's questions: How do you use your house - your car - your possessions in service to God?  I love to have Bible Study and meetings at my house and to entertain and have people over and share "Christian life" with them.  I try and do that with all that I have and possess.  I have a friend that uses her vehicle in God's service at all times.
There are so many ways we can use what God has blessed us with for Him.  How will you use what you have for Him?

The GEMS Leadership is on a retreat preparing for the new season of GEMS which starts September 11th.  Please pray for them today and that the Lord will continue to speak and lead as we prepare to minister through GEMS.

Happy Saturday!

Friday, August 24th - Acts 18:23-28

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Acts 18:23-28 ~ When you see other Christians not representing God well, do you judge them or do you lovingly teach them?  #BeaCoach

Paul was about God's business spreading the Word!  He had trained Priscilla and Aquila to work in Ephesus.  When they heard Apollos speak they knew he needed some more encouragement and training.  He was only telling part of the story and so they took him in and "coached" him as they had been coached.  They helped and encouraged Apollos on his journey and he went fearlessly on his way.  Apollos shared the Good News wherever he went and proved from Scripture that Jesus was the Christ!

It is so easy to judge others and not take the time to encourage and coach.  We get caught up in the little things and forget to be the encourager and coaches we need to be.  Which are you - judge or coach?

Happy Friday!

Thursday, August 23rd - Acts 18:18-22

Good Evening!

It has been a long day, but rewarding.  Our school routine started for real today with a full day and everyone had a great day!  Hallelujah and praise the Lord!  I apologize for being late posting, but my folks are here and they leave tomorrow morning and so we had to have some family time and talk!  :o)  It has been fun watching the kids tell them of all their first day adventures!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Acts 18:18-22 ~ Paul trusted Priscilla and Aquila to continue his missionary work in Ephesus.  How you live = the amount of trust you're given.

Can you imagine having a mentor like Paul?  Priscilla and Aquila studied under him and he taught them everything and then left them to carry on his work in Ephesus.  Paul definitely trusted them and he entrusted the work to be done in Ephesus.

How much trust do others have in you?  Is it hard to be worthy of such trust?  As Lisa said in her tweet:  "How you live = the amount of trust you are given."

Allow others to trust you by living the life God has called you to live!

Happy Thursday!

Wednesday, August 22 - Acts 18:1-4

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Acts 18:1-4 ~ Meet Priscilla.  She opened her home and provided financial support to Paul in his missionary work.  How are you involved in missions?

How am I involved in Missions?  I spent last weekend on a mission retreat with the mission team.  I was 10 when my Mom and left the USA and flew to Lusaka - Zambia.  I came back to the States and got my college degree in Mission and Christian Education.  I served on the mission field for over 10 years.  I attend the Missionary Convention when at all possible and I love to hear, read and experience Missions!
Priscilla was one of the first missionary supports!  She shared what she had with Paul and others.

We are all missionaries!  How much are you involved?  How much are you willing to sacrifice?

Have a great day!

Tuesday, August 21 - John 11:28-44

Good Evening!

Sorry I am so late with this post, but I got a late start today and then had meetings tonight.  My folks are here for the week and we are enjoying time with them.  Anyway, better late than never!  :o)

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: John 11:28-44 ~ Oops, the Lord is about to do a miracle and Martha is detailing to Him why it's not a good idea (39)  #AskWatchBelieve His Answers

Mary appears back on the scene with the same faith she showed before - "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."  She knew what Jesus was capable of, but knew that He knew best as well. (32)
Verse 35 is the shortest verse in the Bible and so important: "Jesus wept."  This showed the emotional side of Jesus and the fact that He was just like us with feeling of pain and frustration, etc.
Martha was worried about the smell.  What do you think she was thinking?  Jesus prayed to His Father and God granted His prayer and Lazarus came out and was alive!  He did this to glorify God and prove that He was the Son of God.

Are there things you are trying to tell Jesus about how your life should go?  Be careful!  He DOES know best!  Rest and lean on Him!

Sleep well everyone!

Monday, August 20th - John 11:27

Good Morning!

Yesterday in church, Mike announced that this is "FEARLESS" week.  As I have thought about that statement and challenge to read the devotions and actually put it into practice - I am excited!  There is so much going on for my family this week:  my parents arrive today to spend the week with us; final preparations for school to start; school starts for both my children - milestone years as my son enters Junior High and my daughter starts Kindergarten; and so much more - overnights and retreats - etc.  Let's be FEARLESS!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: John 11:27 ~ Martha may have gotten caught up in "doing" and details, but she was a woman of great faith! Go Martha!  May her statement be ours!

John 11:27 - "Yes Lord," she told Him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

I mentioned yesterday the faith of Martha and the changes she had demonstrated.  This verse says it all and is her confession of faith!  This should also be our confession of faith!
"I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God who gave Himself for me - died, buried and rose again - and I accept Him as my personal Savior, to walk with Him daily until I go to live with Him forever!"  The Gospel - The Good News in a sentence!
Will you accept it as your confession of faith?  Have you asked Him (Jesus) to be your Lord and Savior?
"I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die."  John 11:25,26

If you would like to talk to me or other GEMS leadership, please let us know.  We pray for you daily, even though we don't know all your names.

Have a FEARLESS Monday!

Sunday, August 19th - John 11:17-27

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: John 11:17-27 ~ Martha's detail-mind made her misunderstand how Jesus was working.  When God answers your prayers, be wide open to HOW He's doing it.

Wow!  This package is packed with golden nuggets of Scripture.  First of all Jesus finds out that Lazarus has already been in the grave for four days.  Jesus knew what was going to take place, but He wanted to teach a lesson and glorify His Father.
I think verse 20 tells us about a new Martha, as it says that she went to meet Jesus.  We are told in the previous verse that there were many people that had come to comfort Mary and Martha in the death of their brother.  Under usual circumstances, Martha would have still been trying to minister to the people and make preparations and such, but verse 20 says that Martha went to meet Jesus and Mary stayed home.  Interesting!
Verse 21 shows Martha's faith.  She tells Jesus that she knows Lazarus wouldn't have died if He had been there, but she also knows that God will give Jesus whatever He asks and Jesus tells her that Lazarus will live again.  Martha again expresses her knowledge and that Lazarus will indeed live again in the day of the resurrection.
Verse 25 is pivotal and so important: "Jesus said, 'I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?'"  Here it is - the Gospel and our hope of eternal life!  Martha goes on to state in verse 27 that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God!  She knew and understood.  She had chosen correctly this time and believed Jesus could do anything.

I believe in Jesus an He is my Lord and Savior.  I know that I will be with Him someday in Heaven and live forever praising His name and His Father, God!  Do you believe?

Have a stupendous Sunday!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Saturday, August 18th - John 11:1-16

Good Evening!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries:  John 11:1-16 ~ In desperation, Martha called out, and she expected Jesus to answer immediately.  Jesus knew His best answer was a delayed answer.

Jesus had spent time with Martha, Mary and Lazarus.  Martha sent word to Jesus telling Him of Lazarus' sickness because she knew the Savior would know what to do and would want to see him.  It says in verse 5 that Jesus loved them.  Do you think it was hard for Jesus to stay away, even though He knew what would happen?
The disciples are trying to protect Jesus and don't want Him to go back to Judea.  They don't understand until Jesus tells them that Lazarus is dead and not just asleep.  Jesus knew what He had to do and that God would be glorified in this situation, but Jesus had to wait.  They headed back to Judea.  In the last verse of this passage - verse 16 - Thomas  makes a bold statement:  "Let us also go, that we might die with Him."  The disciples knew that those in Judea had tried to stone Jesus, but Thomas says, "Let's go with Him."  He was ready to die for His Lord.

How strong is your relationship with Jesus?  Would you die for Him?

Have a great evening!

Friday, August 17th - Luke 10:38-42

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Luke 10:38-42 ~ Work/to-do lists/details/: It's so easy for that to "BE" your life.  Martha missed out.  Are you spending time just BEING with Jesus?

This is a fairly familiar passage where Jesus and His disciples come to Martha and Mary's house.  (These were the sisters of Lazarus.)  Martha was busy making all the preparations for Jesus and became a little jealous of her sister that was just sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening.  When Martha approached Jesus and asked Him to tell Mary to help her, she didn't get the answer she wanted, but one that we should heed as well.
Jesus said that we shouldn't worry about the little things, but choose the most important thing - listening to the Word!

Was this passage a "wake-up call" for you?  It was for me!  As I hustle around trying to get everything done and ready for school to start, have I lost my true focus?  Priorities - to-do lists - housework - schedules - and so much more, but Who is at the top of the lists and first on the schedule and top priority?  I hope it is time alone with the Master, our Savior and our God!  Do you need to take a minute and re-focus?  I did!

I am going on a retreat this weekend where I know there will be some great quiet time and just BEING with Jesus.
I won't post early tomorrow, but will do so in the evening.

Have a Fantastic Friday!

Thursday, August 16th - Rahab's story

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: I love what God communicates thru Rahab's story:  He loves, accepts and honors all people regardless of their background.  Matthew 1:5, Hebrews 11:31, James 2:25

We read the story of Rahab yesterday where she hid the spies and they made an oath that she and her family would be saved when the Israelites came and destroyed the city.  If you read on in chapter 6, you will see what happens to Jericho and Rahab and her family are saved.  They lived with the Israelites after they were taken from Rahab's house.

If we read the different passages mentioned in today's tweet, we will see that Rahab was a part of God's plan.  Matthew 1:5 - "Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab."  If you did not read the preceding verses in Matthew, this is the genealogy of Jesus Christ!
Hebrews 11:31 - "By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient."  Her faith in God saved her and her family.  And finally, James 2:25 - "In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?"  Rahab was righteous because of her faith in God and her actions.

As I wrote yesterday, God loves us all and sometimes uses the most unlikely to do His work.  We all serve Him as we share the Good News to those who do not know.  Just remember, God loves, accepts and honors all people regardless of their background.  He washes us white as snow and we are new creations.  Remember the quote I gave you yesterday?  "God doesn't always call the qualified, but qualifies the called."
Go and serve our risen Lord and Savior, our Father God!

Have a thankful Thursday!

Wednesday, August 15th - Joshua 2

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Joshua 2 ~ Rahab was a prostitute, but God didn't disqualify her because of her profession.  She believed in Him and He worked thru her faith.

Rahab plays an important part in the Israelites history as you know the story of Jericho.  Do you remember the children's chorus we used to sing?  "Joshua fit the battle of Jericho...and the walls came tumbling down." (abbreviated version!)
The two spies went into Jericho and Rahab took them in.  The King heard they were there and he ordered Rahab to turn them over to him.  She knew he would kill them and so she sent the king's men on a wild goose chase.
She told the spies how fearful all the people were of them and their God as they had destroyed many and had crossed the Red Sea on dry land.  In verse 11 Rahab indicates she knows who the Israelites serve - "...for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below."  She knew that they were going to come and destroy Jericho and take the land and so she pleaded for her life and those of her family.  In verse 14 the agreement is made, "Our lives for your lives."  The spies tell her that she will have to bring all her family to her house in order to be safe and that she has to tie the scarlet cord in the window, which she did when they were safe.
The spies went back and told Joshua all that Rahab had shared with them.  Verse 24 is important, "The Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us."

God uses the most unlikely people to do His work.  We come to Jesus just as we are and accept Him as our Lord and Savior and we are accepted.  Rahab was a prostitute and yet believed in God and He worked thru her.  God's plan is perfect as is His timing.  How is your faith?  Is God calling you to serve?  Are you ready?
Remember, "God doesn't always call the qualified, but qualifies the called."

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday, August 14th - Hosea 3

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Hosea 3 ~ Gomer was so in her sin, she found herself a slave to it.  Hosea paid the price to buy her back.  Jesus paid the price for you  #liveforHim

God told Hosea to go and get his wife and show love to her.  Now, Gomer was with another man and probably had another, but God asked Hosea to love her like He loved Israel.  Even when Israel turned to other gods, God loved her!
Hosea went and bought Gomer and told her that she was to love only him and that she would live with him and he with her.  Hosea paid the price for Gomer, even though she was with another man and had been with others, and took her back as his wife.

God sent His Son Jesus to do the very same for us!  We were sinful and Jesus Christ died for us!  Jesus paid the price for us with His own life!  We accept Him as our personal Savior and live for Him - share His love with others - Share the Good News!

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."  John 3:16

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday, August 13, 2012

Monday, August 13th - Hosea 2:14-23

Good Morning!

Did you hear the rain falling during the night?  It was a very welcome sound and relaxing and easy to sleep by as there was no lightening or thunder.  God is good!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Hosea 2:14-23 ~ God will restore His people, even though they sin against Him.  He may have to lead you to a "desert" to get your attention.

The restoration of Israel by God is a beautiful love story.  It was difficult but beautiful.  In verses 19 and 20 the love of God is shown - "I will betroth you to me forever;... in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion, ... in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord."

God's love for us is unconditional and true and strong.  Even though we sin and disappoint Him, He still loves us and He will restore us to Him.  We may have to walk a difficult path in the "desert", but He is faithful to walk with us!
Do you feel like you are in a desert right now?  Remember to ask the One that has and is Living Water for a drink.  He is with you and will provide all that you need!

Have a marvelous Monday!

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Sunday, August 12th - Hosea 2:1-13

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Hosea 2:1-13 ~ God speaks about adultery here, but it's all about sin.  If we fill our lives with things other than God, He removes His blessing

God does not stand for sin!  We see in this passage that God is talking about Israel and the sin she had committed - worshipping Baal and other gods.  God punished Israel for her sin - her adultery.  God is a jealous God and wants no other gods before Him.

How are we doing today?  Are we living adulterous lives?  Do we have other things that take more of our time and attention than God:  work, TV, electronic gadgets, sports, time, money, etc....  God asks for us to be His and His alone - totally committed and sold out for Him.  He takes care of us and blesses us beyond our wildest dreams, He hears our prayers and answers, and He is ever present in our day to day lives.  God is good!
Take time today to reflect on your life and make sure God hasn't fallen below something in your life.  Are you still committed to Him?
Share the good news and Shine brightly for Him today and everyday!

Have a super Sunday!

Saturday, August 11th - Hosea 1

Good Morning!

What a beautiful morning!  We are suppose to have a perfect weekend with temps in the 80's both today and tomorrow.  Yesterday was a beautiful day too!  I was privileged to spend the last two days with leaders from around the world attending the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit!  It was inspiring, worshipful, thought provoking and just simply awesome.  God was truly in our midst.  To Him be the honor and glory!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Hosea 1 ~ How could God ask His prophet Hosea to take unfaithful Gomer as his wife?  This parallels God's unending love when we are unfaithful.

Hosea was God's man and he obeyed God even when he maybe didn't understand.  He married Gomer who was an adulterous woman and had children already.  Gomer gave birth to three children with Hosea:  Jezreel was the first son; Lo-Ruhamah was the second - a daughter; and the third was a son - Lo-Ammi.
God's plan was revealed with each child: Jezreel - God would punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel and put an end to the kingdom of Israel; with Lo-Ruhamah, God would no longer show love to the house of Israel. but show love to the house of Judah; and finally, Lo-Ammi when God said Israel was not His people and He was not their God.

This was a dark and difficult time for Israel, but she would be punished and restored - all in His great Plan.

God's love for us is unending and unfailing!  No matter what we do, He loves us and asks us to come to Him.  God hates the sin and loves the sinner.  He accepts us with our deepest, darkest secrets and He forgives and washes us white as snow!  God restores, transforms, and makes new our lives!  All glory and praise be unto God - our Father, our Redeemer!  God is good!

Have a great day!

Friday, August 10th - Judges 16

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Judges 16 ~ Delilah valued money more than relationships and being trustworthy.  Why do people love you?  If they put their trust in you, are they safe?

Delilah was definitely a deceiver.  Do you think she ever loved Samson?  I don't!  She was interested in the money.  She had tried several times, three, and he had not told her the truth either time.  I would have thought that Samson would have caught on to her game when she cried the same thing every time - "Samson, the Philistines are upon you!", but he grew tired of her nagging and told her the truth.  He was captured and blinded and sent to prison.  Delilah received the money and all were happy - except Samson.
I don't know just how much time passed, but Samson's hair grew back and he asked to be put next to the pillars of the temple.  He knew what he was going to do from the time he had left the prison.
He called upon God to give him strength and power one last time and he would die with the Philistines.  God answered his prayer and he killed more in his death than he had in his lifetime.  (verse 30)  The last part of verse 31 says that Samson led Israel for twenty years.  He had served God well.

The two questions Lisa asks in this morning's tweet are important.  Why do people love you or want to have a friendship/relationship with you?  Are you trustworthy?  Do you have their back, are you looked at as a person with integrity and good character?  Take a minute or some time to reflect on yourself - how do people see you?  Are you true to God and live for Him each and every day?  Yes we all fall, but we can still be a person of integrity and good character.

Have a great day!

Thursday, August 9th - Judges 13:24-15:20

Good Evening!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Judges 13:24-15:20 ~ Here comes another bad girl - Delilah.  Before we get to her, read the story of Samson ~ Judges 13:24-15:20.  How did he use his God given strength?

The story of Samson is interesting.  He was strong and blessed by the Lord.  Verse 14:5 says that "The Spirit of the Lord came upon him in power so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands..."  In verse 19 it happened again and he struck down 30 men and took their clothes to give to the men that had answered the riddle because his wife had betrayed him.
Verse 15:14 it happened again and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him and he killed a thousand men.  The Lord was with him and gave him water to drink.
Notice 15:20 - "Samson led Israel for twenty years in the days of the Philistines."  He was God's man and he served God by leading Israel.

There is more to come and we will see a different side of Samson when he comes in contact and falls in love with Delilah.  Stay tuned!

Have a great day!

Wednesday, August 8th - 2 Kings 9:30-37

Good Morning,

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 2 Kings 9:30-37 ~ There's a lot to this story, here's the main thing:  A person may think she can do what she wants; ultimately God's justice wins.

A lot of things happened from the time Ahab met Elijah and was told what would become of him, his descendants and Jezebel.  Jezebel was evil and did whatever she desired.  She used many to do her work for her and carry out her evil schemes, but in the end it was as it had been said by Elijah.
Remember in 21:23 of 1 Kings Elijah said to Ahab: "And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'"  That is what happened.
If you read the whole chapter of today's verses (2 Kings 9), you will get the whole story of why Jezebel was killed.  Jehu had been appointed as the King of Israel and was told by God through His prophet to destroy the house of Ahab.  God said that He would avenge the blood of His servants the prophets and the blood of all the Lord's servants shed by Jezebel. (2 Kings 9:7)  Justice had been done!

God is watching us.  There are many times that I wonder and even ask - "How much longer God?  There is such evil in the world today."  God's Plan - send His Son into the world to die and rise again - giving us the hope and promise of eternal life with Him!  God has sent us out to share the Good News until the whole world knows and then He will return to take us HOME!  It will not be easy, but that is what we have been called to do - Let's shine brightly and share boldly for Him today!

A fearless church of Christ followers whose ridiculous love and dangerous witness are irresistible.  I am all in, are you?

Tuesday, August 7th - 1 Kings 21:1-29

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: 1 Kings 21:1-29 ~ Jezebel was a deeply committed woman; she just happened to be committed to evil.  If you don't live for God, you are against Him.

Ahab and Jezebel were quite a pair.  It all really starts in verse 4 where king Ahab acts like a spoiled child - "I want that vineyard!  I want that vineyard!  Mean old man won't let me have what I want!"  Can't you just hear and see his temper tantrum?  Then enters Jezebel and tells him she will make it all better and get him his vineyard (toy).
Jezebel was evil and she had Naboth killed.  Through deceit, lies and evil - Jezebel got the vineyard, but angered God.  God sent Elijah to deliver the message to king Ahab - that he and his family would be destroyed and that dogs would devour his wife - Jezebel and that dogs and birds would eat those descendants in the city and in the country.  Ahab had sold himself to evil in the eyes of the Lord.
After Elijah told Ahab all the disaster that was coming on him and all his family, Ahab changed.  God saw this change and had mercy on Ahab, but did not remove the disaster for his family, just postponed it and said that He would bring the disaster in the days of Ahab's son.

Jezebel was definitely committed to evil.  She did not live for God.

Are you living for God today?  Is He your Rock, your Redeemer, your Strength and your Everything?  HE is mine!  I serve a living God and I live for Him!

Have a great day!

Monday, August 6th - 1 Kings 16:29-17:1, 18:1-19:2

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Let's keep looking at bad girls in the Bible...Meet Jezebel - considered by many to be the worst/most evil ever! 1 Kings 16:29-17:1, 18:1-19:2

There is a lot of material in these passages and we see just how evil Jezebel was.  First of all, she was a worshipper of Baal (verse 31).  Jezebel's husband Ahab was also evil and provoked God to anger, even more so than kings before him.  He did not worship God, but so many other things.
In the beginning of chapter 18 we find that the famine was very bad and that Jezebel had been killing all the Lord's prophets.  However, Obadiah had hidden 100 prophets in caves and had taken care of them.  We find that after Elijah had told king Ahab that there would be no dew or rain unless he said (17:1), Obadiah had been looking for Elijah and had treated those harshly if he was not found.  Obadiah was afraid he would be killed as well.

I would have loved to have been there for the rest of the story.  Elijah sets up a test:  Jezebel's prophets of Baal and Asherah against God!  Set the altar on fire was the challenge - they called on Baal and nothing happened.  I love Elijah's taunting in verse 27.  Well, you read the rest of the story - Jacob poured water and everything on his altar and prayed that God would send fire and He did!  All the people of Israel once again cried to the Lord - "The Lord - he is God!"  Ahab told Jezebel all that had happened and she was furious and told Elijah that she would kill him!

Do you ever get caught up in what is going on around you and lose sight of what you really know and believe?  It is tough at times, but our God is with us and who can be against us?  He is ready to take us through each day - with His strength!

I saw a bumper sticker one time that read as follows:  "God said it; I believe it: That settles it!"  Isn't that true?  He is all we need!

Sunday, August 5th - Mark 6:14-29

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Mark 6:14-29 ~ Herodias didn't like hearing truth - she had the messenger killed.  You may not order a hit on a person, but are you open to hearing truth?

This is a pretty gruesome story, but true!  All beginning with Herod marrying his brother's wife!  John the Baptist had told Herod the truth, in that, it was not right to have his brother's wife as his wife.  Herod had John arrested and put in prison, but had not killed him, because he feared him.
Herodias, wife of Herod and his brother, held a grudge against John and wanted him killed.  She knew it was the truth, but didn't want to listen.  Why do you think Herodias reacted so harshly to John's truth?  Was it wealth; was it position in the palace; was it greed; was it love?
Notice that Herodias used her daughter to get what she wanted.  She couldn't get it herself and so she used others!  The king had signed an oath, but he was distressed.  Could he have not carried out his oath?  What would have happened?  What do you think the daughter thought when she was handed the head of John the Baptist on a platter?  (I think I would have probably gotten sick.)  She went directly and gave it to her mother.

I am sure we would not go to the extremes that Herodias went to because she didn't like hearing the truth, but do we act any differently?  Are you open to hearing truth?  I know that it is very hard to listen to someone telling you that you have been wrong and they are coming to you as a Christian sister or brother and pointing you in the right direction with the Scriptures in hand.  However, I would rather have that embarrassment for a moment and a time of repentance and love with my Savior than continuing to live in sin.  The truth sometimes hurts, but it is the only way - Jesus is Truth!

Are you open to hearing truth?

Saturday, August 4th - John 4:39-42

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: John 4:39-42 ~ The forgiven woman was so blown away by Jesus' forgiveness and love she could not keep the story to herself. #shareyourstory

Excited!  Energetic!  Overjoyed!  Enthusiastic!  Happy!  Changed! ~ Just a few words to describe the Samaritan woman that Jesus forgave.  She immediately went and told others and shared the Good News!  She was a missionary!
Jesus stayed and taught among the Samaritans for two days and many more believed and were forgiven.  I love the last part of verse 42:  "... and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world."  They got it!  They knew who Jesus was and they shared the news.

How did you feel when you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and received His forgiveness?  Did you run out and tell everyone you met?  Have you shared the Good News with others?  That is what we are called to do for God - share the Good News!  It's not to late - share your story!

This reminds me of a song that has been around forever and has been re-made and re-recorded by many:  "This Little Light of Mine".  Do you remember the first few lines?  "This little light of mine - I'm gonna let it shine.  Let it shine - Let it shine - Let it shine!"  Will you let your light shine for Him today?

Have a super Saturday!

Friday, August 3rd - John 4:1-26

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: John 4:1-26 ~ Jesus knew all the sin of the woman at the well, but He loved and forgave her.  Do you have sin that you think is too bad to be forgiven?

There is a lot packed into these 26 verses.  First of all we see the "humanness" of Jesus.  Jesus had been teaching and preaching in Judea and left for Galilee.  He was tired and thirsty and sat down to rest.  (His disciples had gone into town for groceries.)
The woman came to the well as she did everyday and was not expecting this trip for water to change her life.  She was a Samaritan and Jesus was a Jew and they never talked to each other or associated with each other.  Jesus crossed the "line" (set by the world) and spoke to the woman - "Will you give me a drink?"  The conversation and life change begins.  Jesus spoke of the living water!  Verse 14 is very significant: "but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  He spoke of Himself and the hope of eternal life with Him!
The woman at the well still not grasp Who she was talking to and asked for the living water so she wouldn't have to come to the well again.  Then the conversation turns to her life of sin and she begins to see the Master, Jesus.  Jesus forgave the woman at the well just as she was.  She didn't get everything in order before she continued talking with Him. Jesus accepted her for who she was and He forgave her.  He is willing to do the very same for us - no matter how big a sinner we think we are - He is ready to forgive and love us like no other.
In verse 23 Jesus explains how we are to worship God the Father - in spirit and in truth.  He reveals to the woman that He is the Messiah!  Can you imagine the woman's reaction - the look on her face - the feelings deep inside?

How about you?  Do you think you have done something or said something that cannot be forgiven?  Look to Jesus - call on His name - ask Him for forgiveness and it will be given.  Begin your personal walk and relationship with Him today.  He is waiting!

Have a wonderful Friday!

Thursday, August 2nd - Luke 2:21-24

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Luke 2:21-24 ~ Mary's sacrifice of doves shows that she was poor (Leviticus 12).  God uses humble people to do great things - He just needs a willing heart.

Mary and Joseph did everything according to the law of the Lord.  On the eighth day He was circumcised and given the name Jesus, just as the angel had told them to do.  Did you notice in verse 22 that it said "when the time of their purification had been completed."?  Mary had to wait 33 days before going to Jerusalem to the priest to present Jesus to the Lord. (the wait is 66 days for a daughter, according to Leviticus 12)  They also brought the sacrifice required - one dove for a burnt offering and one dove for a sin offering.  The doves were for those that could not afford the lamb.  Yes, for the poor.

God, indeed, uses humble people to do great things.  HE gives them everything they need to accomplish the task that He has given.  It happens even today!  God doesn't always call the qualified, but qualifies the called!  What is God calling you to do?  Do you have a willing heart?  That is all He needs!

Have a wonderful day!

Wednesday, August 1st - Luke 2:1-7

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Luke 2:1-7 ~ When God tells you that He wants you to do something for Him, we expect it will happen easily. #notabiblicalview  Dig deep - keep going

Okay, I have not given birth to a child, but have watched as others have and it is not easy.  I also know that traveling any distance in the ninth month is difficult, even by car!  Here is Mary who is coming to the end of her pregnancy, has to travel with Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem - walking or on a donkey!  Easy - I think not!!
So they make the long journey and arrive in Bethlehem, only to find there isn't a hotel room!  They end up sleeping in a stable with the animals.  What do you think Mary was feeling and thinking at this time?
Remember that Mary was very young and had been chosen by God to carry His Son.  I think it might have been something like this:  Joseph, we have come quite a distance and I am very tired and weak - I just need a place that is warm to lie down - I think the baby is coming!  God chose me to carry His Son and chose us to parent Him - He will take care of us!  The stable is fine - just let me lie down and rest.  Joseph made Mary comfortable and they rested.   Mary woke Joseph and told him the baby was coming - there was no flurry or hustle - but just gentle moans and quiet cries as Mary gave birth to the Son of God in a manger!  His name was JESUS!  I can see the animals surrounding the couple and newborn baby to keep them warm.  Mary looked at her newborn Son with love in her eyes and joy in her heart - she had been obedient to God the Father!

This is my version of what happened, but the Bible says:  "that while they were in Bethlehem, the time came for the baby to be born, and Mary gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."  The Son of God, Jesus was born and God's plan of redemption continued!

God didn't say life would be easy, but He did promise to be with us every step of the way!

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the first day of August. 2012!
