Monday, May 23rd - Luke 18:1-17

Hey there GEMS!

What a day!  I have been watching the news and getting reports from FaceBook and other sources on the Joplin, MO tornado recovery efforts.  Over 116 dead!  Catastrophic devastation!  I have been moved by the assistance of our Christian brothers and sisters that have helped in the midst of their losses as well.  Ozark Christian College has opened it's campus to FEMA and the Red Cross and they are both head-quartered there!  They have provided updates for families.  Churches are providing places to stay for people displaced.  Christians everywhere are praying!  They are being persistent in prayer!  God is hearing and He is answering!

There are three distinct, yet similar parables in our passage tonight.  The first is the persistent widow -  she kept asking the judge to give her justice and finally the judge granted it so that she would leave him alone. The widow was persistent and she never gave up!!
The second is the story of the Pharisee and the tax collector.  The Pharisee is one that wants to be noticed and be talked about in a big way.  The tax collector goes a distance and prays for forgiveness, "God have mercy on me a sinner!"
The third one is talking about little children being brought to Jesus and how Jesus says, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them..."  The innocence of a child - they do not know the meaning of "you can't ...."  They are persistent and do not give up!  They will find a way!

Let us be persistent in prayer!  Let us be as little children and come before the Throne!    Pray in prayer!!  Don't give up!!! Perseverance!!

Love y'all!
Cheri Lynn
