Thursday, June 30th - Psalm 36

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 36: Unlike wicked people (1-4), God's light (9) allows believers to "see" their own sin and the path toward being more like God (5-8).

As I read this passage this morning I thought of the world we live in today!  It is the same as what David experienced in his lifetime.  Our work (sharing Christ with the world) is cut out for us!  We "see" because of HIS light and we are HIS light in this dark world.  We may be the only Jesus someone "sees" today!  Is your light shining bright?

Verses 5-9 are a praise song that used to be sung quite often and I haven't heard it for awhile.  Look at the words and sing them to Him today!  Rest in His unfailing love!  Allow your light to become strong by being in the presence of His light (a daily quiet time).
Go out and SHINE!  See others around you with His eyes!

Father God, I praise You with my innermost being!  I worship You!  I know You are not finished molding me and making me into what You want me to be, but I praise You.  I long to be more like You!  Father, allow me to see others through Your eyes, break my heart with those things that break Yours, give me Your strength so that I will not become weary, and let me love as You love me - unconditionally and with an unfailing love.  May others see YOU when they look at me and know that YOU are my Father, my Savior, my Friend and want the same for them!  I love You!  In Your Son's name - Jesus, I pray. Amen!

Have a great day GEMS!  I will talk to y'all tomorrow, but from the state of Missouri!  Family reunion time!  :o)  Love y'all!

Wednesday, June 29th - Psalm 35

Good Morning GEMS:

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 35: When we are attacked, we want to attack back.  Instead, ask God to fight for you.  He'll show your goodness to the people who matter.

The psalmist asks God to "fight" for him and continues to praise the Lord in his asking.  "Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation."  "I will give you thanks ...."  "My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long."

God is for us and He is our refuge, our Protector, our Shield, and our Savior!  He cares for us and HE loves us!  He has given us everything we need and is with us every step of the way.  Seek Him, call upon Him today, let Him lead and fight on your behalf.

It is going to be another beautiful day!  Let's meet it head on and seize every opportunity in our path to share the love of Jesus and the Message of salvation!  Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Love and prayers,

Tuesday, June 28th - Psalm 34

Good Morning GEMS!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 34: This psalm shows us the partnership between us and God. Notice the "things" that man can do (seek, call, etc.) and how God responds.

God is with us all the time and is in partnership with us.  One of my prayers is in verse one - ""I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips."  Oh how I long for that to be so.  No matter what my day is like or what I have to do - I have praise for HIM on my lips!

David was the Worship Leader and did his job very well!  Did you notice the different "lyrics" of songs that we use in our worship today?  "Taste and see that the Lord is good..." is one of the more familiar, but the whole Psalm is full.  I love to sing the scriptures as an offering to the Lord.  If anyone hears me, I am sure they wonder if I have lost it, but it is a great time of worship and intimacy between me and the Lord.  HE loves to hear our praise!

Words of partnership:  I sought - He answered; called - heard;  fear him - delivers; come and listen - teach; cry out - attentive and hears; and serve - redeems!  What a partnership we have with the Lord!  He hears us when we cry out, He delivers us from our troubles, and best of all, He redeems us!  I've been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb!  Hallelujah!

Go forth and greet your day with confidence and know that HE is with you!

Have a great day!
Love y'all!

Monday, June 27th - Psalm 33

Good Morning GEMS!

I am a little tired this morning after being awake most of the night, but God is good and I will make it through the day!  When I was very young, my Grandma used to tell me that the lightening was God turning on and off the light switches and that the thunder was Him moving the furniture.  :o)  Well, He was really working hard last night and must have done every room in every mansion as the lights kept going on and off and the furniture was moving!  :o)

It is only fitting that our Psalm today talks about God's power and how He spoke everything into being!  Verses 6-9 speak of His creation!  We are to praise Him as His Word is right and true, He is faithful, and the earth is full of His unfailing love.
"The plans of the Lord stand firm forever." vs.11a  He watches over us and protects us.  He cares what we do as His children!  He will take us HOME someday and we will live with Him forever!  Praising and worshiping Him eternally!
"We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.  In him our hearts rejoice for we trust in his holy name.  May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you." vs. 20-22

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 33: We cannot trust in our strength or efforts (16-17). God, in His unfailing love, is our help, our shield and our deliverer.  Trust Him.
Our strength is never enough, but with His strength, we can do anything He has called us to do!  We have work to do as we share HIS story with those who do not know!  Trust Him!  Know that He would not ask us to do something without equipping us to succeed.  Share His love with those who do not know!  We must tell others!  HE is with us each step of the way!  He is our help - our shield - our deliverer!  Let's GO!

Have a great day everyone!
Love and prayers!

Sunday, June 26th - Psalm 32

Happy Sunday Morning!

I apologize for posting late yesterday, but I had written the post and then got a phone call and forgot to post it!  Sorry!  I really like doing the posts early in the morning as it starts my day off with a blessing (sharing with all of you) and I hope you enjoy reading it before you get your day started too.

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 32: Confession (3-6), repentance (2), forgiveness (1,5,10). What a gift from God.  Choose to use your free will to come to Him (9).

We have forgiveness of all our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ!  We confess our sins before Him and He forgives!  There is no better place to be than in the arms of our Lord and Savior - following Him daily and doing His will!  Being obedient in Christian baptism and having our sins washed away and become a new creation and a member of the Family of God.  Wow!
It is your choice!!
So many come and say, "But there is no way God can forgive me for what I have done!"  "I want to get things on the right track and then I will come."
Please don't wait as God accepts us just the way we are!  He will help clean you up and make you white as snow!  A personal relationship with Jesus is amazing!  His promises are true and HE is with me ALL the time!  I can call on Him day or night!
It is your choice!!

Have a wonderful Lord's Day!  We (the GEMS Leadership) are praying for you!  Keep looking upward and know that HE is with you!

Love y'all!

Saturday, June 25th - Psalm 31

Good Morning!  (or rather Good Evening as I just realized I forgot to post this!  sorry!)

It is going to be a great Saturday!  The sunrise was beautiful this morning and I was reminded of all my blessings!  One of those is GEMS!  I am so very thankful for the Leadership team and for each of you!  I love doing life with y'all!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 31v 9-13: Have you ever felt like this? While I haven't been this down, David shows me that in tough times, we need to go to the Lord.

We have all had tough times and problems and even been depressed.  It is in those times that we, like David, need to run to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  I have said it several times, but I don't know how I would get through each day without HIM!

The road we walk is the narrow way, but HE walks beside us and guides us along the way.  He is always there and we have to just call His Name.  Lean on Him!!  He is our strength!  He is our truth!  He is our fortress.

"Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord."  Psalm 30:24

Love y'all!

Friday, June 24th - Psalm 30

Good Morning GEMS!

Lisa's tweet: :LMRMinistries: Psalm 30: Our problems are only temporary -V2, 5, 11. The stronger you are in your knowledge of who God is, the more you can trust Him for help.

Do you know what I hear in these verses from the Psalmist?  Well, I will tell you or at least write them here :o).  I hear - praise - help - healing - mercy - temporary - eternal - rejoicing - security - faithfulness - dancing - joy - thanksgiving - and over all, love!  God loves us!!!  (John 3:16)

He cares about every little thing that we do or that happens to us!  He is everything!  As we have said before, this life here on earth is short for those that are in Christ, because His promise is to take us HOME where we will live FOREVER - eternally!

I have found verse 2 to be true - "O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me."  I know HE is with me and guides and teaches and gives me strength!  I could not make it without Him!  The promises in this passage are huge:  "...his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.  You turned my wailing into dancing; ...clothed me with joy..."

My prayer today and everyday is in verse 12:  " that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever."

Yes, we may have problems and tough times, but they last only a night and rejoicing comes in the morning!  TRUST God!  Let Him turn your weeping into dancing!  KNOW Him!  STUDY His Word!  Let's grow together in Him!

Have a great Friday everyone and know that I am praying for y'all!
Love ya!

Thursday, June 23rd - Psalm 29

Good morning GEMS!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 29: God formed creation; therefore, He is more powerful than it. He, who can handle the power of creation, can handle our lives.

As I read the first few verses this morning, I was reminded of the worship song that we sing at church that was written by our music director.  "Ascribe to the Lord, the glory due His name."  Psalm 29:2a
The imagery in this passage is amazing!  The demonstration of power through the words concerning the "voice" allows you to almost see the passage.
"over the waters...thunders...powerful...majestic...breaks the cedars...breaks in pieces...strikes with flashes of lightening...shakes...twists and strips the oaks...gives strength and blesses."

Reading this Psalm again, my thoughts went to the natural disasters our world has experienced this year - tsunami, earth-quakes, tornadoes, floods, and fires.  The power behind each is amazing!  I, as I am sure many of you, have seen first hand the destruction of a tornado and a hurricane and floods.  Trees are stripped of their bark and some trees become like tooth picks!  Pieces of the tree or wood from the houses are driven through pieces of marble without even cracking it.  The power behind those storms is great, but the power of our God is greater!!
As Lisa said, God spoke and ALL creation was formed - existed!  HE is over all!  How could we think that HE couldn't handle our lives?  He loves us and is willing to walk with us through every moment of our lives - guiding, leading, teaching, blessing, and when the going gets rough, He carries us!  It doesn't get any better than that!  I give HIM full control!

As you go through your day, pause and look at the intricate detail of HIS creation and know HIS power!

Have an awesome day!

Wednesday, June 22nd - Psalm 28

Good Morning GEMS:

This morning's thoughts come to you from Normal, IL! :o)  The kids and I got back home yesterday afternoon and were happy to see that the storms followed us and happened here too!  :o)  It was good to sleep in our own beds last night, even though it was a very late night for me.
I had a very encouraging conversation and prayer time (all in Portuguese) with my former co-worker in Portugal.  I keep a Blog for them and their ministry and we had some catching up to do - over 40 minutes!  It was great!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 28: This is a prayer of faith. Sometimes we're praying to God, but we wonder if He's there. Pray like the psalmist - trust in God (v7).

The psalmist knows what has and will happen as he prays in faith.  Have you noticed that these prayers have all the elements we have talked about - Adoration/Praise; Confession; Thanksgiving; and Supplication/asking?  The psalmist pours out his heart and knows that God hears!
I, like Lisa, was drawn to verse 7:  "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.  My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song."

God is always there/here!  He hears us when we pray.  I received another tweet yesterday from a friend that had the following:  "The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays."  ~Soren Kiekegard  I feel that if we continue to grow in our personal relationship with Jesus, we become more like Him and we become more passionate about the things that concern Him or that break His heart.  He cares for us and HE loves us and wants/desires to have daily conversation!
Won't you pray as the psalmist - with trust?  He is your Strength and your Stronghold!

Have a great day everyone!
Love and prayers!

Tuesday, June 21st - Psalm 27

Good Morning GEMS!

Happy first day of summer! :o)  The kids and I will be travelling home today from Missouri!  We have had a great time down here with my folks and my sister and her family, but we are anxious to get home.  Please keep us in prayer as we travel!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 27: What do you fear? If it overtakes you, your focus is on your fear, not your God. Choose God-not fear-as your stronghold.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?"  Psalm 27:1
Choosing God and not fear is the only way to go!  He is always with us and will protect us and guide us through this journey of LIFE.  That is a promise to us from Him!  He never said that it would be easy, but HE did say it would be worth it!  Eternal life with HIM!

I like verse 4:  "One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."
This is my prayer!  That this side of heaven, I will SEEK Him each and every day and will dwell with Him all my days until His return and I will gaze upon Him, seek Him and praise Him FOREVER!
As I grow in my personal relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, I can have these things.  Through prayer I can enter His presence and I can pour out my fears and my need to know HIM more!  I can SEEK His face and ask to be protected, to be surrounded with His love, to be the child that He wants me to be - all the days of my life!  HE IS my Stronghold!

I know that HE is protecting me and that HE is ALWAYS present to hold me up when I can't go on!  I have experienced this in the last couple weeks in a very real battle!  I ran to HIM and He gave me the strength and comfort and wisdom that I needed.  He used His children and His Holy Spirit to help me!  No, it has not been easy, but HE has brought me through it and I am stronger IN Him because of it!  TRUST HIM!

Choose God and not fear as your stronghold!  HE will not let you down or fail you!

Have a great day and remember that we (the Leadership and Prayer Team) are praying for you daily!  We can't wait to see what God has for us in the coming months!  Stay strong!

Love y'all!

Monday, June 20th - Psalm 26

Happy Monday GEMS!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 26 V2: Do I live in such a way that I am fine with asking the Lord to look deeply and test me and know that He will see righteousness?

Great question Lisa!  As I read our Psalm this morning I thought about what the Psalmist was saying and leading a blameless life and not sitting with deceitful men or the wicked.  That is my goal and I try, but I fail.  As Christ's followers we are called to share the Gospel with those we meet and that do not know Him - the wicked and deceitful.  I do not feel that we would be able to pray the same prayer as the Psalmist if we did not have a strong personal relationship with Jesus and gain the strength and wisdom that only He can give to carry out His commands.

Look at verse 3: "for Your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in Your truth."  In verse 6 through 8 the Psalmist says that he worships the Lord and proclaims His praise and tells all of His wonderful deeds.  He loves to go to house where the Lord lives. (temple)
We have the opportunity in prayer to approach the Throne at any time, day or night, and to worship our Lord and Savior and King.  We gather together with our Christian family and worship corporately and gain the strength we need for each week or day.  We lean on each other as we lean and look to Him for answers and comfort and love.  Yes, we have rough times, but we get through them with the help and prayers of our sisters and brothers in Christ and HIS presence in our lives - the Holy Spirit.

I can pray the prayer of verse 2: "Test me, O Lord, and try me, examine my heart and mind;" and know that He will find a heart that is trying to live as He desires and that longs for His presence and teaching and to become like Him in all that I say and do.
Praise the Lord, HE is not finished with me yet and I am still a work in progress!  I will be until HE returns to take us HOME, where we will be perfect as He is perfect and praise Him for all eternity.

There is a hymn that came to mind and I have been humming ever since I started reading this morning:

"Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free.

I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy word and make me pure within;
Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.

Lord, take my life, and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine;
Take all my will, my passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord, in me abide.

O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival, start the work in me;
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.
                          ~ James Orr (1936)

This is my prayer dear Lord!  Search me, test me, try me; take all my will, my passion, self and pride; I surrender completely to You!  Send Your revival Lord and let it begin with me!

Have a great day everyone!  Love y'all!

Sunday, June 19th - Psalm 25

Father's Day 2011

Good Morning GEMS!

I know today is a time of celebration for many and a time of sadness for some.  I am celebrating with my Dad today and yet I am mindful of those that have lost their earthly fathers this past year.  There are some that don't like this day at all due to bad memories or no memories.
To each and everyone of us, I want to say, "Rejoice and be glad!  Our Heavenly Father loves us and cares for us like no other!  He has been, is, and forever will be our Father!  Celebrate!"

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 25 V 3: We have to die to our definition of what it means to be put to shame, because this promise is true. No shame for God's kids.

Lisa is right as she says there is no shame for us as God's children!  Hallelujah!
There is so much in this short Psalm that we can take and ponder.  In verse 1 - "To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God."  Verse 4 and 5 - "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."  Trust - Teach - Guide - Hope!  All of these stem from our personal relationship with HIM!  There is no shame for those that love and follow Jesus - our Lord and Savior.
Look at the rest of the verses and find the strong words of encouragement and strength that we can hold on to in hard times and good times, as we grow in our personal walk with the Savior!  Great mercy and love - good and upright - instructs - guides - teaches - loving and faithful -  confides - refuge - integrity - hope - love!  All of these describe our God, our Savior, our Lord!

We are His children! He is our Father!  Honor Him today!

Love y'all!

Saturday, June 18th - Psalm 24

Good Morning from Lake of the Ozarks!

It has stormed here all night long and I have been reminded of HIS awesome power.  We serve an AWESOME God!  Happy Saturday!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 24: The King of glory is invited to come through the temple gates so His people can be in His presence.  Are your "doors" open to God?

Everything belongs to the Lord!  God created everything from nothing.  We are but stewards of His riches.  Who may enter His presence?  Those with clean hands and a pure heart that doesn't worship idols.
God longs to have a relationship with us.  From the beginning when He walked and talked with Adam and Eve; when He spoke to Noah and the Prophets; when He sent His Son to die for our sins so that we could have the promise of eternity with Him!
In the Old Testament, only High Priests could enter into the Holy of Holies on behalf of the Nation, but when Jesus came and died and rose again, He gave us the opportunity to enter into His presence through prayer.  Jesus is our High Priest and He is with us always through the Holy Spirit.

He gave us a command to go and share the message of His salvation to all!  We must use our "hands" to serve Him and Him alone!  He longs to have a personal relationship with everyone.  He has been invited to come through the gates so people can be in His presence - Open your "gates" so that you may be in the presence of the King of Glory, the Lord Almighty!

There is no better place than in His presence.  As we worship in song and through His Word, we can learn from Him, grow in our relationship, and lean on Him always for He cares about us!
Thank you Jesus!

Have a great Saturday everyone!  Love y'all!

Friday, June 17th - Psalm 23

Good Morning GEMS!

Happy Friday!  One of the most famous scripture passage is ours to read and meditate on today - Psalm 23!  Many have read it, memorized it, printed it and even sung it.  It is very well known.  Let's take a look!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 23:If you truly understand who God is, how He protects and provides for you, the things of this world are not scary.  He loves you.

The Lord is my shepherd - He takes care of us; He loves us; He is always present!

He gives us rest!  He encourages a quiet time with Him!  That is one of the things I love most about going down to the Lake - sitting on the dock and watching the sunrise and listening to the birds and looking out on the still waters (where sometimes a huge fish jumps out) and taking in HIS creation.  He paints the very best mornings I have ever seen!
It is a time of quiet, a time of praise, a time of reflection, and a time of encouragement and renewal.

He guides me!  Who could ask for anything more.  To have the Creator of the Universe as our guide!  He has a plan for me and I just need to follow - to sit and be still before Him and know His will for my life!  He is with me every step of the way - through the good times, the sad times and the bad times.  He comforts me and protects me and sometimes even carries me!

He is preparing a place for me!  I am His and He is mine.  He is preparing my home in Glory!  There will be goodness and love and I will live with Him forever!  Hallelujah!

I am sure this passage means many things to each of you.  The thoughts above are what it spoke to me today, but I can say, I read it differently every time!  That is the greatest things about the Word of God - we can read it over and over and see something different or new each time!  Read the passage again and listen to the Lord - What is He saying to you TODAY!

I'll be writing from Missouri the next few days, but I will be here!  Have a wonderful day!  I love y'all!  Blessings!

Thursday, June 16th - Psalm 22

Happy Thursday GEMS:

It looks like we are going to have a beautiful day!  As I sit here and think about all my blessings I remember the simple childhood chorus we sing:  "Jesus loves me this I know; for the Bible tells me so.  Little ones to Him belong; they are weak, but He is strong.  Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so."  Oh how He loves me and He loves you!  How wide and how deep is the Savior's love for you and me - us?

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm22: Look for all the references to Jesus' suffering-V 1, 6, 7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 18. Jesus can relate to our suffering because He went through it.

As I read today's Psalm, I was amazed at all the reference to Jesus' suffering and His crucifixion.  So many say the Old Testament is hard to read, but I get excited to find all the references to the New Testament and the Christian Life of the New Covenant that Jesus gave.
As Lisa said, Jesus can relate to all our suffering because He went through it.  There is nothing we can confront or experience that He, our Savior, has not gone through.  We just need to cry out to Him and He will give us peace, real peace like no other.  He has been there and He was and is victorious!  We have the same promise and with Him - all things are possible.  After all, we have read the end of the Book and we win - as sons and daughters of God, fully devoted followers of Christ, baptized believers - we will go HOME and praise our God forever!  No more suffering, no more tears, no more death!  Eternity in Heaven!

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."  John 3:16

Have a great day sisters!  We love y'all!

Wednesday, June 15th - Psalm 21

Good Morning GEMS!

Hey, before I get started this morning, I had a quick question.  I ran into Lisa and Connie last evening at Noodle & Company.  This Blog came up and I was asked when I posted?  I was posting late evening or night and then switched this week and started posting in the early morning.  My question is:  Which time is better for y'all?  Do you read it in the morning or during the day or late at night?  I guess it doesn't really matter, but I just wondered.  :o)

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistires: Psalm 21:A victorious man is thanking God. He has been granted eternal blessings, but the best is that he knows the joy of God's presence (6)

Can you hear the joy, the praise and the love in the Psalmist's words?  Rejoices - how great his joy - granted the desires of his heart - answered prayers - rich blessings - glory, splendor and majesty - eternal blessings - glad - joy of your presence.

Could this be a glimpse of Heaven?  We will all rejoice and be glad in the joy of HIS presence!  There will be no more sorrow, no more wars, no more sadness, but praise and thanksgiving for the One True God, the Creator - the Son, our Savior - the Holy Spirit, our Comforter.  An eternal praise and worship time!  :o)

"Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength; we will sing and praise your might."  Psalm 21:13

What attitude will you choose today?  I choose an attitude of PRAISE!

"Father God, You are so big and I am so small, yet You have given me a task to complete - to share Your love and tell of Your grace to all those I encounter.  Father, may I go through this day praising YOU and allowing those that I encounter and talk to throughout the day to see YOU shining in me!  May I be what YOU want me to be!  I love You!  Your daughter - Cheri Lynn"

Have a blessed day!  Praises to the Lord Most High - Who was and Is and Is to come!

Tuesday, June 14th - Psalm 20

Good Morning!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 20: May God give you the desire of your heart (that is in alignment with His will) and make all your plans (submitted to Him) succeed.

This is a shorter Psalm, but packed with great promises and truth!  He does answer when we call!  I can testify to this fact!  He is faithful and true to His children!
I like verse 4 which Lisa used in her tweet, but I really like verses 7 and 8 - "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.  They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm."

As you go through your day today, think of these verses.  What are the desires of your heart?  Have they grown from/in your relationship with Jesus Christ?  Trust in the name of the Lord and rise up and stand firm!
May we all shine brighter today for Him!  Let people see Jesus in us!

Have a blessed day GEMS!

Monday, June 13th - Psalm 19

Good Morning GEMS:

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." Ps. 19:1  It is going to be a great day!  Arise - shine - give God the glory!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries:Psalm 19: This psalm celebrates the beauty of God's creation (1-6) and of God's Word (7-11). Memorize v. 14; pray it to God throughout the day.

Some of my best memories are watching a sunrise and praying as I marvel in the colors and wait for that instant when the sun "pops" up and begins to shine and warm the day!  I am amazed that not one is like the other - each different and unique - and yet just as awesome in beauty and demonstration of the handiwork of God.

Notice the description of God's Word in verses 7 through 11:  perfect - trustworthy - right - radiant - pure - sure - more precious than gold - sweeter than honey!  This all in one psalm!

"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."  Psalm 19:14

May this be your prayer and mine throughout the day, the week and always.

I love y'all!  Have a great day!

Sunday, June 12th - Psalm 18

Happy Sunday Morning GEMS!

The sun is shining, the sky is blue and we have the freedom and opportunity to worship our Lord and Savior together today!  AWESOME!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 18: How to summarize so many truths in a Tweet? Look for these attributes of God: rescuer, refuge, powerful, listener, perfect, deliverer.
Wow, she is so right.  There is so much packed into this Psalm.

Let me try and list all the attributes and/or characteristics and titles the Psalmist uses for the Lord God in this passage: strength, deliverer, refuge, shield, stronghold, worthy of praise, helper, hearer/listener, powerful, resounding voice, rescuer, supporter, delighted, rewarder, righteous, faithful, blameless, pure, perfect, flawless, Rock, teacher, avenger, unfailing kindness and love.
Amazing list isn't it?  There is so much talk and new movies of "Action Heroes" in today's world and we have to look only to our Savior!  He was - is - always will be - the ultimate Action Hero!  I long to become more like Jesus.  I want to incorporate a God-perspective into my life.  May I see what HE sees and hear what HE hears.  May I reflect Jesus in all that I do and say.

"We were made to work and we were made to worship.  Put them together and you have your eternal itinerary in heaven."  ~Max Lucado

Let's go and worship our awesome God today - praise Him - love Him - thank Him for the many blessings He pours out on us and for HIS promises of truth!  "Some glad morning when this life is o'er - I'll fly away! To a land where joys will never end, I'll fly away!"

Happy SONday!
Love and prayers,

Saturday, June 11th - Psalm 17

Hey GEMS:

How has your Saturday been?  Mine started out fairly normal, but then had some excitement.  There were three little girls that were left in a car by their Dad and the car some how got in gear and started rolling into the parking lot and then into the street.  They were scared and as I jumped out of the van and chased the car, I realized God's protective hand on them and me!  There was no traffic on a very busy street at 12:45 on a Saturday!  The girls were okay and even the car was still running.  It was very "emotional" for me and the kids.  Nathaniel just kept saying, "Mom, God put you there at that time to help them and He took care of the girls and you!"  My little man - I am so proud of him.

As I read our Psalm for today I was reminded of His love and His truth.  He cares for me - for us, and He will protect us and hear our prayers!

Lisa's tweet:  LMRMinistries: Psalm 17: v3a great prayer/goal for us. Unlike the wicked, our reward is not in this life (14).  We live to be right in God's eyes.
The phrase in verse 1 - "Give ear to my prayer..." is used or written several times throughout the Psalms.  Listen to my prayers Lord, they come from a true heart and I know You hear and answer.  We have the awesome opportunity and right to enter the presence of our King and our God in prayer at any time!  We do not have to go through a High Priest, but we can pray directly to the Father.  The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf when we just don't know what to say, but God listens and He hears!

Father God, I praise You tonight as I sit and think about the activities of the day.  I saw You in the sunrise, as You caused the colors to fade into morning bright; I saw You in the smiles on my son's and daughter's face as we laughed together at lunch; and I saw Your angels protect three little girls in a run-away car!  You are Awesome God and I praise You!  Hear my prayer O Lord!  Search my heart and see if there is any wicked way in me; cleanse me and allow me to walk closer to Thee.  Bless all my fellow GEMS and wrap Your arms around them and let them feel secure in Your love!  Protect them!  I love You!  In Jesus name!  your daughter - Cheri Lynn

Sleep well GEMS!  I hope to see some of you tomorrow.  :o)

Friday, June 10th - Psalm 16

Hey GEMS:

Hope you had a great day and have begun your weekend with smiles and joy in your hearts.  It has been a beautiful day, but we may be in for some storms tonight.

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 16 O much good stuff here! Apart from God I have no good thing (2). He counsels me because I listen to Him (7). He gives me joy (11).

As Lisa says, this whole Psalm is full of good things.  I especially like verses 1-3; 5-11.  I guess you could say I like the whole Psalm!  :o)
" I have set the Lord always before me...I will not be shaken." (vs 8)  Oh, that is my prayer...may I always have the Lord in front of me leading and guiding my steps.  Seek Him first!  Don't try it on my own as I will surely fail!  Keep my eyes on Him - upward and in front!
"My heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body will rest secure..." (vs 9)  My heart is full of joy and my tongue sings HIS praise.  I rejoice in Him and I am secure and rest in Him!
"...eternal pleasures at your right hand." (vs 11b)  a glimpse of heaven?  We will be praising and rejoicing and dancing ALL the time!  All in His presence!!!  Hallelujah!!!  Maranatha!!!

Sleep well my sisters in Christ!  We will chat again tomorrow!
Love and prayers,
Cheri Lynn

Thursday, June 9th - Psalm 15

Good Evening!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 15: A quick list of some characteristics for living a holy life.  I asked myself, "How do I match up to this list?"

Psalm 15:1 "Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?  Who may live on your holy hill?"
1. Him whose walk is blameless
2. He who does what is righteous
3. He who speaks the truth from his heart
4. He who has no slander on his tongue
5. He who treats his neighbor right
6. He who doesn't gossip about his fellow man
7. He who despises the wicked, but honors those who fear the Lord
8. He who keeps his word even when it hurts
9. He who lends money without charging an exorbitant amount of interest
10. He who doesn't accept a bribe against the innocent
"He who does these things will never be shaken."  Psalm 15:5b

How do you measure up?  I continually try, but fall short at times.  There are so many of my friends that say, "When I can not be ashamed of who I am and what I have done or I'm doing, I will come to church and be baptized."  Don't wait!!  God the Father - Jesus the Son - and the Holy Spirit accept you just as you are - filthy!  His blood will wash us clean and we start anew - a new creature in Christ!

The list above is in the Old Testament and still has good advice, but we live under the New Covenant - the Blood of Jesus shed on the Cross for the remission of our sins and His resurrection three days later giving us the hope and promise of eternal life!

Let Jesus guide you through each day through the Holy Spirit!  Seek His face daily through study of His Word and a quiet time with Him daily!  Remember to pray in prayer!

I love y'all!  Sleep well dear GEMS!

Wednesday, June 8th - Psalm 14

Good Evening!

Wow, I am actually a little earlier tonight!  Let's get right to the scripture passage.

Lisa's tweet:  LMRMinistries: Psalm 14:  Even when we are doing good things, we can never be fully perfect.  For us to be in the 'company of the righteous', we need Jesus.
I am so glad that God isn't finished with me yet!  I will be perfect when I come into His presence at the 2nd coming.  Praise the Lord.  The Lord is the refuge of the poor!  He is our refuge!  He is there when we call!

I sure do miss y'all!  I would love it if you would comment or ask questions here on the blog.  Lisa and I and several others are ready to "talk" and have conversations about what you are learning or what the Lord is doing in your life during this break.
Comment on the blog or send us an email and we will respond quickly.

Have a great rest of the evening!  "Talk" to y'all tomorrow!
Love and prayers,

Tuesday, June 7th - Psalm 13

Good Evening sweet GEMS!

I hope you have had a great day and stayed cool!  The kids and I went swimming again tonight for about an hour and they loved it.  It wasn't too crowded and it was fun to watch my daughter getting braver each time she goes!  She trusts me, but wants to do things on her own.  However, she is always looking to make sure I am not far away!  I love it!

Isn't that kind of the way we are with God?  We trust Him, but want to do things on our own.  Then when the going gets a little rough, we quickly look around to make sure He is close and we can lean on Him.

Lisa's Tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 13: How long, O Lord, must I wrestle with my thoughts?  Talk to God when destructive thoughts that are in your head. Vs 5-6  Wait in hope.

There are times when we have to wrestle with our thoughts, but we have the promise that we can approach the Throne with confidence that He hears and He answers.  We just need to talk to Him.  Share your thoughts, no matter what they might be!  HE is interested in YOU and wants to walk beside you every step of the way.  HE loves you and wants to be loved by you!

Look at verses 5 and 6:  "But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation.  I will sing to the Lord, for He has been good to me."  HIS unfailing love makes my heart rejoice and I can't but sing because HE has been good to me!!

I love to sing and especially praise to my Lord and King!  I wrote the following for Memorial Day and I would like to share it with you tonight.

                                         "Praises Ring"
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America;
And to the Republic for which it stands;
One Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Today we honor those who have given us the right to be free,
Our Military, our Veteran's - from sea to shining sea.

They all have fought so very hard and many have given their all,
As we hear Taps or see the Flag - we rise, salute, and stand tall.

"I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior,
For who's Kingdom it stands;
One brotherhood, uniting all Christians in service and in love."

We have a Savior that gave His life so we might live,
I serve Him with all I am - to Him my all I give.

Each pledge is connected to our ability to be free;
Whether it's the flag of the USA or the empty Cross we see.

I will sing as long as I am able, to honor my God, my Savior, my King;
From the mountains to the prairies, I will let HIS praises ring!
                                                               ~Cheri Lynn Oakley  5/29/2011

Let His praises ring in all that you do!  HE deserves our very best as we patiently wait on His return.  God Bless y'all!  Love ya!

Monday, June 6th - Psalm 12

Hey GEMS!

This has been one of the longest days!  My son went to his first day of camp today and it was rough.  We had prayed last night and again this morning that all would go well and he would be the shining light that God wants him to be.  He was afraid of making new friends and being alone.  Both his little sister and I prayed again and asked the Lord to use him for His glory and to make new friends and to feel the Lord's presence with him.
I picked him up this afternoon and he said, "Hey Mom, I made new friends and I had a pretty good day!  Our prayers were answered!"  It made me smile and swell with pride in my son, in that he knows who to turn to in times of need - his Savior and Lord, Jesus.

Lisa's tweet for today was: LMRMinistries: Psalm 12: Ever feel like you are the only one trying to do right? Stay in touch with a community of believers.  The Lord will protect us.
There are days that I wonder as I look around if anyone else really cares.  I see people around me getting upset at little things and flying off and using the Lord's name in vain...It hurts me!  I want to run up to them and say, "Do you know that Jesus died for you?!?!?!?"  Instead I run to my small group or confidants and we pray together!  HE is faithful and true to protect us and to keep us safe.
Out of the mouths of babes comes such wisdom - Derlani to her brother -"You got this brother!  Jesus is with you and you can do anything with Him!"  The Lord will protect us and keep us in His arms!

I love y'all!  Sweet dreams!  Blessings!

Sunday, June 5th - Psalm 11

Good evening!

How was your day?  It started off gloomy and raining quite hard at times, but ended with sunshine and blue skies!  I am not a real big fan of storms, but being in church when the thunder rolls and the lightening flashes - it seems okay!

Let's get to our passage for today.  Lisa's tweet was: LMRMinistries:Psalm 11 v 5: The Lord will test believers; and He does not play.  You are either on His team - or not.  He is in control.

In the Lord I take refuge.....Wow!  I wish I could say that I run to the Lord every single time I need Him, but sometimes I try and do it on my own.  I, like so many others, feel that He doesn't need to be bothered with my little things.  I take the big decisions to Him, but try and do most of it on my own!  He IS concerned about the little things.  He wants to be the first one we turn to - no matter what!
"The Lord is in His Holy temple; the Lord is on His heavenly throne."  He is my refuge!  He is looking out for me!  He is in control if I but hand over the reins!  Let Him take control!

Father God, I ask that you help me "give up" my everything to You.  May I always remember that you are just as concerned with the small things as you are with the big ones.  Take my life and let it be a beacon for You!  May my words reflect You and Your message of salvation!  May my life show in action that YOU are in control!  I love you and long to serve you more!  Cheri Lynn

Start the new week with a smile on your face and love in your heart for all those you will meet this week.  Blessings!

Saturday, June 4th - Psalm 10

Good Morning!

I decided to try something different today and post in the morning and not the late evening!  :o)  It is another beautiful day and I am rejoicing in it as I marvel at His handiwork and His wonderful grace!  I am a child of the King!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 10:God sees all the evil in the world. He is the defender of the weak - the fatherless and the oppressed.

As I read this chapter of Psalms, it was as if I had just read it this morning, but in the newspaper.  The crime, the devastation from tornadoes and storms, the scheming, the cursing and lies, the LOST!!!
The Lord God does see all the evil and He is our defender!  Praises to Him!  However, we are HIS light in this dark world.  He has given us a command to go and share His love and His message of salvation to all!  Even in Chapter 9 yesterday we were told: "Sing praises to the Lord...proclaim among the nations what He has done." (Psalm 9:11)

Go and sing His praises wherever you might be today!  He is our King!  He is our Lord and Savior!  Go and tell others the things He has done for you!

I love y'all!

Friday, June 3rd - Psalm 9

Good Evening!

What a night!  I laughed so hard I cried!  Seeing Anita Renfroe in person is so much better than just watching her videos.  It was a great evening with friends and part of my small group.  I saw several GEMS there and was so glad that we got to attend and just were able to sit back and relax.  It was GREAT!!!

Lisa's tweet: LMRMinistries: Psalm 9: vs. 10: Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.  We give Him praise for that!

"I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.  I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High." Psalm 9:1-2

The Lord reigns forever; He has established His throne; He is a refuge for the oppressed!

Verse 11 - "Sing praises to the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what He has done."  This could be possibly the first Great Commission - GO - Proclaim - Tell!

Sleep well my friends/sisters!
Love y'all!

Thursday, June 2nd - Psalm 8

Good Evening GEMS!

I hope you are all well and ready for some rest!  Did you have a good day?  I hope so!  In spite of the light showers, it was a good day!  My son finished his last full day of school today and brought home his report card!  I am now the Mom of a 5th grader!  Yeah!  He finished his fourth grade year with a great report card and made Mommy very proud!

On to our Scripture for tonight.  Lisa's tweet for today:  LMRMinistries: Psalm 8: Ever have self-esteem issues? See yourself as God does.  You are crowned with glory and honor, and He made creation for you to enjoy.

"O Lord our Lord How majestic is Your Name in all the earth;"
"O Lord our Lord How majestic is Your Name in all the earth."
"Oh Lord, we praise Your Name; Oh Lord , we magnify Your Name;"
"Prince of Peace; Mighty God; O Lord God Almighty!"

His glory is above the heavens and He has ordained praise from all ages - infants, children, teens, adults and seniors - all can and should praise the Lord!  We are God's creation!

He cares about each one of us!  HIS love is unconditional!  You are His creation and He loves each one of us.  It is so hard sometimes to embrace the concept of creation and of unconditional love and just of God!  His infinite being and our finite minds clash sometimes, but forward we go in faith and know that His Word is true and that someday (maybe soon), He is going to send His Son, Jesus Christ to return to earth and gather His bride - the Church.  Hallelujah!  Maranatha!  Come Lord Jesus!

May we look forward to that day when He returns to take us HOME!

Sleep well my sisters!
Blessings!

GEMS - a poem shared at our last meeting

This poem was shared at our "Celebration - Reflection" meeting last week and we wanted to post it here on the Blog.  Thank you Angela for sharing!

GEMS...a word that most women associate with sparkling diamonds or maybe a pearl.
But GEMS to me, means so much more, because it opened up a brand new world.

GEMS took me out of my comfort zone and placed my life in another space.
It strengthened my walk with Christ, and has taken my faith to a higher place.

New friendships...awesome group leader...and even some fun girl time!
GEMS, in many big and small ways, has blessed this life of mine!

"God Embracing Mothers who are Single" that's what GEMS stands for on the surface.
But, GEMS has helped me to see God's plan in my life, with a more clearly defined purpose!

Wednesday, June 1st - Psalm 7

Hey GEMS:

What a beautiful day we experienced today!  It wasn't too hot and it wasn't cold - it was gorgeous!  I guess it is suppose to rain tomorrow and be hot.  Oh well!

Lisa's tweet:  LMRMinistries:  Psalm 7: In conflicts with others, ask God to "arise" and decree/deal out justice.  Vs 3:  ask God to show you if you have done anything wrong.

We need to cry out and ask God to refresh our memories and let us know if we have sinned against Him.  He will let us know and we will repent and stand before Him and know that He loves us!  We need to take refuge in Him!  I love the last verse of the Psalm:  "I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High."

Have a good night!  Rest and sleep well!
I love y'all!
